Post Problems with the G5 mouse
So, I pretty much got frustrated with my G5 mouse and I bought a Cyborg R.A.T. 7. This new mouse kicks ass!

http://techreport.com/articles.x/19754

My old G5 is sitting on my desk, so I took it apart and took the USB cable out since this was the cause of it shorting all the time. I'm adamant about not buying Logitech again, and I'm going to stick to that since I've been through about 3 pairs of Headsets and at least 10 different mice with this company and they got crappier as I went. I always bought Logitech and never really had too much beef with them until the G5. This thing didn't go out because of normal wear and tear. I mean, it was brand new and was messing up from the start.

I want to breathe new life into this G5. I don't really feel like f'ing around with USB cables since they are so thin and sensitive so I did a search and found replacement cable on ebay.

I'll be sure to post and update when I get it put back together again and run tests. It will be a couple days, but I'll be sure to posts pics of the operation and everything.

Just thought I would share this just in case anyone else had an issue like I did with a G5.

I've read the reviews on those rats, let me know how it works out for you. I've read a lot about it slipping out of your hand, forward, and how the buttons are too far north of your palm even when you adjust it to its smallest size. Oh, and ergonomics...I've been wondering if that issue is just that people are so use to the "regular" mouse or not. Keep us posted.

Post Re: Problems with the G5 mouse
Hey let me know how that USB repair goes. My G5 started dying after about 3.5 years because the usb started fraying right at the end of the mouse, and some of the actual wiring was showing. It was my baby, and the g500 isn't quite the same as it was :(.

If I can't repair it, I'll just hold on to it. I had no problems with it, and 3.5 years is a long enough time for a $50 investment, IMO. However, I bought the logitech g35, and they were doing fine until my dog stepped on the extra long wire and tore one of the headphones off. Those dinky little rotation things weren't nearly strong enough for me to invest another $100 in that. Poor design, really. I got the Razer megalodon, and other than being less bass-y they're just all around lighter. Not really that great though. Nothing special - but I really don't care because if I want true sound fidelity I'd dump more money into my sound system.

I digress, let me know how the repair goes. I want my baby back.

OK! It finally arrived from China! (It's that place where they make stuff)

So, I opened up the package and took a close look at it to compare it to what was left of the old cord. (Yes, I have cookies in the background. What do you expect I'm a fatty)

I was really happy to get this mouse back up and running again so I took plenty of pictures. This picture just shows how I had to take the sticky back pieces off to get to the screws.

Image

I opened it up, and disconnected the side buttons.

Image

Removed some of the pieces inside so that I could get to the plug with my fat sausage fingers.

Image

Voila! I got the plug to line up and pushed it the rest of the way in with the tip of the screwdriver.

Image

Sealed it up so that I can get ready for putting some Velcro adhesive on the bottom so it will slide better.

Image

I bought some Velcro at Walmart and just cut it into the shapes I needed for the bottom.

Then, BOOYA! Ready to play some games again! Everything works great! My wife is playing Angry Birds!

HAHA I'm getting silly in my old age. I left my address and name on the package. Not really a big deal but some of you weirdos might try to organize a flash mob to leave a firey flaming bag of poo at my doorstep or something.
