I wonder how well the whole submersion in oil concept really works as far as cooling is concerned, and if it works well, what about doing upgrades?

It does. It's a basic concept of heat transfer. Usually people will use mineral oil. I was using a 40oz.in motor as a lift and instead of using a heatsink to cool the servo I immersed it in mineral oil and twirled my finger around in the oil.

Worked great.

that is great but the only issue is that if your going to cook with that oil I would not eat the food. the stuff on the mother board and such could be VERY bad for you. but man this is good stuff

Wow. Had no idea you could do that... Does this mean I don't have to buy a liquid cooling system for my new baby? hahaha

Liquid cooling is overrated imo. A big heatsink and a couple of large fans will cool anything

There's a huge difference between can and should.

Yes you CAN immerse MOST of your computer in oil.

No you SHOULD not not immerse your computer in oil

I'm not trolling. Unless you're going to use liquid nitrogen to supercool a computer that is overclocked like crazy you don't need liquid cooling.

Correct - if you're going to be overclocking HEAVILY, water cooling is a more viable option. However, I don't consider those cheap ass $80 all-in-one water cooling kits to be a legit system as they rarely work better than a comparable heatsink that's just as quiet.

With the right chip and the right water cooling, you can generally get a few-hundred extra mHz using liquid cooling, but wtf waste hundreds of dollars on an extra few hertz?

These computers are expensive as hell, but it proves you can completely submerge your computer in liquid and get great results. This guy has been working with companies to re-engineer motherboards and GPUs for use in his computers.
