I've lived in Lebanon for 10 years. Do I win the "I know more because I went somewhere" competition? (Which, incidentally, makes me as biased as any).
Trust me, just "going" to somewhere, or even living there will NOT let you know what is really going on. In the opposite case, the only person who can really know what is going on is a completely separated party.

I also agree whole-heartedly with AK:

idk what history books you're reading from, but it's wrong. the jews weren't given israel because no1 wanted us, its because we deserve a place where we can be safe. there was never a country called Palestine, it was a british colony. the palastinians, who claim to be from israel, are actually exiles from other muslim countries, and have never lived in israel, nor have there ancestors (maybe if you go back 1 or 2 thousand years you will find some, but maybe not).

EDIT: what i said before is not my opinion, it is fact

this is sort of true. England created the Mandate of Israel, giving the land to the jews. a huge portion of the land owned by non-jews was bought by jews, which is not hard to believe because we are so rich (lol). also, israel was supposed to include jordan, but England gave "Jordan" to a prince (i think it was a prince) of saudi arabia because they owed him. in my opinion, there is very little chance of a diplomatic solution because the recent generations of muslims have been brain washed by the people in power who are maniacs. every ancient text, the Qur'an, the chrisitan and the jewish bible, and many others, have both good and evil things in them, the one difference is the way people interpret the books. what is going on today in the muslim world is very similar to what went on in the christian world during the crusades.

I don't even know where to begin but I'll go ahead and say that after reading all you have posted, I have come to the conclusion that you have no idea what you are talking about, and just spewing random shit.

First off, it was called the British Mandate of Palestine, not Israel. They did NOT "give" it to the jews, they wanted to create a state of Israel on a peice of land in this mandate. When they wanted to call off the mandate and just get rid of the huge headache occupying Palestine has become, they told the UN to find a way to do something, but it had to PLEASE BOTH SIDES.

The UN came up with dividing the area pretty much 50%/50%, which the zionists accepted, because I mean, hey, if someone gives you free land that aint yours, you don't complain how much.
However, on the other hand, the Palestinians (and every arab nation pretty much) thought that it was complete bullshit. This lead to revolt and all sorts of crap that lead to the war in 1948. Clashes happened here and there, and of course, they had to put an end to it so a truce was put in place and accepted by both parties. The zionists, now having declared themselves as the state of israel, basically abused the truce to beef up their military and took over the whole thing, whilst giving the UN and everyone else the middle finger.

Now mind you, I have many jewish friends and they are some of my better friends. It is the zionists that I don't agree with.
Moreover, I do agree that both the jews and the palestinian deserve a part of the land. What I'm getting at is when it was Palestine, everyone was happy, and jews were not persecuted against or anything for the matter, they were comfortable and pretty much "free". I'm not sure if this happened in Palestine or not, but free jews were taxed in a way different than other free men. Fast forward 60-70 years, and israel has that shit under control nazi-style.

Edit: found this interesting tidbit just now:
"During the Holocaust, the Middle East was in turmoil. Britain prohibited Jewish immigration to the British Mandate of Palestine. In Cairo the Jewish Lehi (also known as the Stern Gang) assassinated Lord Moyne in 1944 fighting as part of its campaign against British closure of Palestine to Jewish immigration, complicating British-Arab-Jewish relations."

Soooo again, whatchoo talkin about willis??

On a separate note: I think the politics forum was locked down for a reason, maybe this thread deserves such a fate?

1. you are right about it not being called the mandate of israel.

2. the jews did not get the land for free, most of it was purchased by the people who were living there.

3. the jews have been in the israel area on and off for nearly 3 or 4 thousand years. we never left because we wanted to, we left because we were kicked out.

4. israel won the war in 1948.

5. bullshit to the statement about israel abusing the "truce", show me proof of this please, if u can find any. israel needed a military because every muslim nation wanted them destroyed for no good reason.

6. bullshit, The Mandate of Palestine was a shit hole, after the jews came, the population of the area grew immensely (especially the non-jewish pop) because we made the area more livable.

7. israel wouldn't have to control the land the way it does if the muslims would stop firing rockects at innocent ppl (and in no way does israel's control of the land even come close to comparing to nazi control).

8. so Christian's and muslims never assassinated any1??

9. jews and muslims lived in peace for many years in spain, we need to get back to that.

1. Yes, we know you lack credibility.

2. As is most land in "civilized" nations. This doesn't change that fact that is was taken from the country that had already been established thousands of years after the last existence of Israel.

3. Cool story, bro. When a mightier power forces you out of a place, it's not yours anymore.

4. Proof please. Mainly because you immediately contradict this in your next statement.

5. "For no reason". Yep. Obviously there's no reason if a whole bunch of people who hadn't been there were suddenly plopped down on land stolen from someone else.

6. Well, of course. The same happens when rich people move in to inner city areas.

7. Because firing homemade rockets with poor payloads at civilian targets is far worse than blatant military attacks against civilian targets.

8. Irrelevant. Stop attempting to turn attention to other topics because your arguments cannot stand under scrutiny.

9. Irrelevant. Stop attempting to turn attention to other topics because your arguments cannot stand under scrutiny.

AK said it all in reply to your numbered list.

The crimes that israel has commited in that region are simply heinous. Especially with the last murder spree it launched on Lebanon when two of its patrols got caught on Lebanese land.

To return to the topic at hand: If the occupation of palestine did not exist, there would be no conflict in that entire region.

American hate by arabs is generated by the fact that the US backs israel, for almost no other reason.

The reason in WW2 that the UK and France decided to carve up Greater Syria was because panarabism was getting to be too powerful, and they had a precious commodity: Oil.

So, what better way to cause conflict than to take over some land in the middle of it all, and give it to the fanatic religious opposite of the fanatics that already exist there, and let them duke it out?
That's what Britain did with its mandates. France did something similar in Lebanon, they created a government in which the positions could only be filled by certain religions. For example, the prime minister must be a Sunni Muslim, the president a Maronite Catholic, thus creating turmoil themselves.

Again I reiterate, some of my best friends are Jews, but a Jew is not a Zionist.
