yeah hardrives or any other sensitive computer components don't like to be moved around sometimes.

and also (from my own experience) troubleshooting to find out what the problem is....can cause more damage to computer components

"It's gotta be the power supply"! "damn cheap made in Taiwan garbage"

unhook it and try it on another board to see if it will post

"that's not it" "must be the memory"

take a stick out of each slot to see if one of them are corrupt

"shit, these are all good maybe I blew a capacitor on the board"

take a flashlight and check all the capacitors

"nope, must be bad cables"

go out and buy all new cables and replace them

**you start feeling counterstrike withdrawal**

"arrrggggg!!!"

by this time you have your computer in pieces and you've Jerry rigged the tower so that you can plug it in without putting the power supply back, and your thinking.....

"I bet you if I threaten it with a hammer it will boot"

been there.... sometimes devices just go out

Yes? But that doesn't explain how the +5/+5 Occam's Razor card can be played here.

I understand, and yes sometimes it's always explained that the reason why things happen..... are complicated but aren't

And that always seems to happen to me. I assume the worst and spend hours or even days trying to figure things out that might just be simple.

But in the situation of a faulty hard drive I would just hate to assume that it just died.

I would much rather say that it was removed from my computer while I was asleep, and someone tried to make a sandwich out of it. When it didn't taste too good they tried to put it back into my computer before I woke up.

yes it was a hardware virus! idling the hard drive and spooling it constantly to crash the drive. I reflashed the bios and stuck in an old hard drive seemed to resolve the issue.
