Where the hell does state get off telling this kid and his family that he HAS to get chemotherapy? If the kid doesn't want it then he doesn't want it. Their citing religious beliefs so how is the state interceding?

On the otherside whatever the true reasons are for the family refusing chemo I just hope they realize that their playing with their kids life.

Bitch should be allowed to kill her son because she's dumb enough to believe alternative medicine works.

Then she should be allowed to be charged with manslaughter.

Then that Dr. Bostrom should have his medical license removed for believing in God.

Although it would be horrible I would love to see the state make the kid do the treatment and then the kid commits suicide.

I'd love to see what happens then.

My guess is that the state would probably lean away from telling people what to do.

From what I gather my guess is that they don't really believe that alternative medicines work, they are just using that and citing religious beliefs so their son doesn't have to do the treatment.

My friend went through chemo after he was diagnosed with leukemia right out of his MOS training, he's a Marine. The treatments he went through and what he had to do to survive is almost unfathomable. He is literally the strongest person I know as far as strength of will and strength of mind and he barely survived. I can't imagine being a teenage kid and having to go through that nor be a parent watching your child experience that.

I really don't think the state should step in and tell someone they need to have some sort of medical treatment just because if not their going to die ,not even a child. I don't think this would even be a consideration if the family was Amish, would it?

As someone who has seen a loved one die from Lymphoma (my dad, last year), I'm conflicted.

Watching someone that you love go through chemotherapy is one of the worst things you can possibly imagine. The side effects from chemo are often much worse than the symptoms of lymphoma itself. Lymphoma is a very rapidly spreading cancer, and chemo and radiation are often ineffective in treating it if it's not caught early enough. Depending on how long he's had it, it's really a quality of life issue. If the kid stands a very slim chance of surviving, then why should the last years/months of his life be spent in pain and sickness induced by chemo? Not doing chemotherapy could give the kid a higher quality of life before his death.

However, since the type of lymphoma he has stands a "90% chance" of being cured by chemo and radiation, then the parents should have more sense than to let the kid die.

Either way, the state should NOT be allowed to legally intervene in this child's life. He, as a human being, has the right to choose what he wants to do. Legally speaking, he may not, but his parents do. If it's his wish and his parents' wish to not go through chemo and radiation, then their wishes should be respected.

My mom has lymphoma however it's not spreading. The doctors say it's possible she's had it all her life and didn't know it. She gets check ups every 6 months now. I can't imagine her going through chemo. Out of everyone I know she doesn't deserve that.

Naw the state is doing the right thing, i mean, who else is going to slap theyr parents until they snap out of theyr wet dreams??.

Also i dont know how much people suffer in the chemo treatment, but i know for a fact that those parents should get weed and teach theyr son how to smoke it, people say that it makes the whole process a lot better.

Religion is just as effective as alternative medicines, so I consider them the same thing (bullshit).

Agree @ Gman.

Watched an ex-girlfriend's father fight cancer for four months... three years after her mom died of cancer.

It's not fun to watch. It should be the choice of the kid and the kid's family.

The state is looking out for the child, something the parents are not. Until this child becomes an adult you can't deny what could be a life saving treatment because of some silly religion. When he is 18 and can decide for himself, then he go do any treatment he wishes but as a child he needs to be looked after properly. The state heard both arguements and decided that the parents FAILED to put the boys best interest ahead of their beliefs. Sometimes and I do mean sometimes the system gets it right.

"Freedom" there is no such thing, patriot act much (i know im from mexico and my point is mute for you)?, plus can a 13 drink??, work??.

This is like, when a couple are getting divorced and the kids "want to be with they´r dad" and they get to an agreement that they should stay with his dad, but suddenly dad doesnt take them to school, he beats them up, or some crazy shit, because his dad has some F*CKING beliefs about the government or some shitty ideas, and then mom realizes hes fucked up, so she cant get them back by any means, so she just goes to court, and the state by a common knowledge of moral guidelines wich rule in society, i mean for the most part, because obviously you guys dont match with this group, they take away the children against theyr will, and place them with mom, but its not like mom is the perfect match but now they are going to be watched by the state.

Warning: The following post may taste bitter, but is not intended as a personal attack.

There still is such a thing as freedom. Right now, if I wanted to, I could go outside and stab someone in the face. I am free to do that. However, after I stab someone in the face, it is 100% certain that I will be arrested and tried for my crimes.

The price of being part of a modern society and not going off in to the woods to live as a hermit is that you are subject to the laws instituted by the government of the country you live in.

The Patriot Act can best be described in the most scientific of terms as "mad gay". I am not a representative of the government of the United States of America and with the way they have run rampant and disregard the will "of the people" in the past few years, they do not represent me. However, the Patriot Act stands until enough sane U.S. citizens stand up and force our government back in to the hole we first dug for it in 1776.

Alcohol is an intoxicating substance. It hinders brain function. Consumption of it by people who are still developing mentally and physically is retarded - figuratively and sometimes literally. While it may be fun to get piss drunk, vomit everywhere, and wake up in your truck bed (multiple times), it is not something that is good for children. At my most core level, I believe the legal drinking age for anyone in the world should be 24 once all cognitive capacities and the ability to make proper choices is reached, however, that's just F*CKIN' stupid, so I support a legal drinking age of 18. At that arbitrary age, we're considered adults in this country and therefore should be able to choose whether or not we can drink.

As much as I would like children to go back to mining coal so they leave my precious internet alone, the human brain is still extremely soft and sponge-like in childhood which means those years are the absolute best for learning. Kids need as much knowledge crammed in to their brains as possible before they have to become adults so that we don't produce dumbass adults (and we're really failing to do that right now).

The big problem with the scenario that you laid out is that if the mother sues for custody of the children after these events, it will take place in a civil court and based on the child abuse laws she can be awarded custody. The civil court ruling would not be the same as the government busting all up in that thang and removing the kids.

As for child abuse laws, deprivation of knowledge and violent beatings are simply unacceptable in a civilized community and children should be protected from that sort of thing as it is indicative of a person horribly unfit to be a parent.

However, in regards to medical treatment - even for cancer - everyone will die at some point. Age is not a critical factor in this. Cancer doesn't care how old you are. A heart attack doesn't care how old you are. A plane crash doesn't care how old you are. A bear doesn't care how old you are.

Personally, I want this kid to have treatment, however, it is the decision of that family whether or not treatment should happen and when the kid dies, I truly truly truly hope that his parents suffer regret and guilt to their fullest extent for the remainder of their miserable lives.

TL;DR - Again, commit suicide, you useless morons who can't read things longer than this sentence.

Edit: And just for clarification and the record, I don't mind if non-U.S. citizens have their opinion on shit that goes down in our government. My problem is when they act like it's their business to partake in the processes of government in other sovereign nations. Yes, we should all hold hands and get along, but right now each nation is to it's own and our goal should be working with our respective country men to establish a social paradigm of getting along with each other as humans.

Thank you for taking time at reading my post, i also took my time to read yours.

Stabbing a man and drinking a beer are total different things and at some point they are the same and ill tell you why, stabbing a man involves a second person, and you will pretty much be fucked up in the butt, unless this person invades or fucks up your property or a person atacking you and you deffending yourself, then it will be issued as "self defense" and you will probably not go to court, while drinking only affects you and only you (for what i heard in germany people are legal to drink at age 15), unless you are so stupid to drive or initiate a fight, that you injure another person, in both cases you will go to court, then you will have to issue your deffense. So partial freedom will be conceded as long as you obey the rules, total freedom will be stabbing people like nuts ant not being judged by it.

With the alcohol opinion "probably" "all" the prohibitions are a standard on social behaviour, but what i tryed to state is the fact that freedom involves "any" desition permanent or partial, without breaking the laws that are already stated by the society as a whole or if not by the moajority of them. If you fail to break this, you will be part of the "anarchist" type of thought.

You know it (from your first post) and i know it, they are F*CKING up with his son, they are depriving him of probably the only chance he has left to live, regarding the horrible suffering he will live and all the sessions and pain he will have to take. Ruling out everything else, we can call this murder, yeah MURDER.

If the kid is to young to make a desition he is ruled out, and then you hear all the parents are doing, then you automatically rule them out, because they are so stubborn to make the right desition. Why the state is making te right desition?, because its the MOST OBVIOUS OF RIGHT CHOICES, PERIOD, the majority of the society and medicine will tell you that, then what is left to this kid, social intervention or state intervention, althought the state inteveins, i doubt that they are interveing for the sake of "looking good", they represent everyone that fits in the model of a caring society, its obvious that it doesnt include most of you guys.

I dont know but that "everyone will die speach" its not good for an argument, sorry, its my thought.

The family is again, not making the right desition, sorry to everyone and i hope that no-one will take it personally but for me, a guy that has cancer and its not willing to take the chemo is a coward, every person that suicides is a coward, a human being not trying to preserve his life is a coward, he is doing the all opposite of what a human being is supposed to do, i however support euthanasy BUT this is another subject dont get me started.

Thanks kitten for letting me have a little opinion on U.S.A´s policy´s LOOOOL.
