Also, 10MM is the best self-defense handgun caliber on the planet. If you want the best, get either a glock 20 or a Colt 1911 Delta Elite.

Coach is exactly right about the legality issues, though. Cities in TX don't have their own gun laws; they're statewide. The fact that you live in Austin has no bearing on the legality.

If you live near one of the 34523452 university campuses in Austin, don't sweat it. While you're not allowed to have a handgun on the premises of a school, the word "premises" doesn't include outdoor areas or parking lots. As long as you don't take it inside, you're cool.

410 shotguns are terrible home defense weapons IMO because the buckshot you can get for them is terribly inaccurate. If you want a home defense weapon, nothing beats 12ga 00 Buckshot. It's powerful enough to penetrate through an entire human torso but won't penetrate more than 3 interior walls.

not more than 3 lol! granted i wouldn't care about the wall if i ended up hitting the AFRICAN AMERICAN with the shot, but buckshot is just so wide. if you're getting your CHL you have to take written and shooting classes (in KY at least) so you will have some training already, stick with a pistol because you can have both the concealed carry and the home defense :)

10MM is amazing, especially in a 1911. Kimber made one with a polymer frame. Polymer 1911, yuck! The only problem I have with 10mm is finding the damn ammo. Even before the shortage they were hard to find up here.

Home Defense? Get a dog, nobody wants to rob a place with a loud barking dog. They are also good companions and fun to hang around with. Also they don't accidently go off and kill a friend or lose a toe when you clean them. I do however miss going to the range every week to help teach cadets how to shoot with my buddy who was the RSO. It's always a laugh to watch a 95lb girl fire a .303 for the first time.

Ok your plot has lots of holes:

1.- I can get a handfull of meat (no plain intended) and put poison on it and *wam* your mutt is dead niucca.

2.- No they arent fun, you have to clean theyr shit off, piss stains on the carpet and living room furniture, they bark in the night for the least minimum reason, etc.

I like the way they do it in Switzerland, every male has to to do 2 years military service. After there service is done they get to keep there weapon in case they are needed. Since every male has a fully automatic weapon with someone well trained on how to use it, home robberies are non-existent.

Lawlz you really need to see my dobe. I've cared AFRICAN AMERICANS were they jump on top of cars even tho its not there's. She just runs up on them in stealth mode then 5 feet away she stops and scares the shit out of them. It so funny to watch. Cool thing about dogs is that they don't stop crackheads. I have a Norwegian ElkHound that does a great job keeping kids out of my yard. He has an ear piercing bark (bread to herd mouse, in Norway a moose is called an Elk). He might scare intruders away but he may not always be able to stop a threat.
