 Processore help
i had to reinstall my os cuz i fucked my comp loading SP3, but now if i click the system icon to check it tells me im running Sp2( that i want) but at diffrent proc speeds, the lowest has been 985 mhz, but when i start to work im my comp it go up to 1.7-2.17 (2.17 being the original proc speed) is my proc fucked up or is it just the checker. also every thing seems to be loading ok, havnt tried games yet tho.

what I'm getting from your post is that you are using windows to check the cpu speeds, correct?
if that's the case, I wouldn't trust the speed that it says, go look up "cpu-z" on google and download the free app, it will give you an accurate rating of your cpu speeds
also something that could be going on that you never noticed before, I know that some intel chipsets on mb's have some sort of speed stepping thing for cpu's that alters the multiplier speed depending on what you are doing on your computer(lowers for 2d apps like intraweb browsing, and ups the multiplier for 3d apps like gaming)
hope that helps, if not just flame me for being a dumba** with computers Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_08

It's probably just a power management option; likely in your system BIOS.

It would be a great help if you gave the specs. If its a lappy then Gman is probably right,if not its throttling. In any case Gman is right, check that bios. But then Chinababy would be right too if its throttling, both are great answers. You guys are good. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_12

When you start your pc hold delete that should bring up the bios, then using your keyboard navigate to power management then look for "cool and quiet" and disable it then hit esc and and it should prompt you to save and exit.Damn that was along sentence,im glad Kitten wasn't here to see it.

yeah, I also missed that it was an AMD cpu, I had a 3600+ a while back and kept the cool and quiet on, it's really nothing to worry about unless the changes in the cpu speed really bug you...

F*CK SP, i have non, i just keep my S.O. running original as it is, if by some means i have to download that shit, i would google it and then maybe, i dont want my XPS laptop to be all fawked because of those dousche´s, like the massive error that ocurred with SP1, i used vista btw, and yeah video card drivers too, i wont install after reading about them.
So GL, probably youll have to wait until something new or a patch or some shit comes out
