Post Graphics Card
Hey you guys! Can yall give me some links to show me some cheap but good video cards needed to play source? Preferably from places like Bestbuy, circuit city, wal mart. Please I want to play with my n00bs again. These people on the one server I play on are stressing me out with the stupidity!!!!! (yes they are dumber than me)

Um newegg is your best bet. What type of card are you looking for. ATI, Nividia.

if your an ATI fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102719

if an NVidea fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814133205

I have owned the top one(radeon hd3870) and have to say that it works amazingly... CoD4 max settings at avg of 55fps

both should be able to rape CSS graphically Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_11

You didn't say 55fps. Really they say to have no chopines you have to run at 60fps. I would go for a 9600. But that's just cause i have two of them. Good cards but if you got the money get a gtx 260 can play all the games you wont on max settings.

If you're looking for a really cheap card, you could always try the Radeon 4670.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLi ... 70&x=0&y=0

Go for the 512 MB version though (1 GB is pretty much a waste for this card as it's not powerful enough to utilize 1 GB). You also don't need a 6-Pin Power supply connector for it either (as opposed to most other PCI-E cards.

I have one myself and it's pretty nice. It handled the L4D demo very well so Source should run very nicely. I haven't had the chance to test CS:S though since my new PC is no longer connected to the internet.

i agree, newegg.com or pricewatch.com are the two sites i would recommend for finding new, cheap hardware.

i'm gonna be buying a new motherboard soon, not sure about video cards yet though.

www.ncix.com or www.ncixus.com for you yanks

I just ordered the ati 4870 gpu for my new comp build, I've heard alot of good things about it besides overheating a bit, but thats easily fixed. It's not a really cheap card, you could also get the ati 4850 which is a step down but performs pretty good and its decently priced.

I've been using my nVidia 7300 GT for a while. It's not that great, but it can run Source fine and newer games on real low quality. I don't remember how much it cost me, but I don't recall it being too expensive.

I don't know how you can even play new games on low quality with a 7300, I'm running a 8500 and its working its balls off to produce medium-high effects.

We kind of need to know if your motherboard supports agp or pci. If it's agp, get a 5600GT - if it's pci go for the 8800.

GTX 280. CoD4 maxed (AAx4, AFx16). Average well over 100 fps, capped at 125. On Dystopia (Sourcemod, maps are harder to render than CSS) I average 150-200+, with min being 80fps on a horribly optimized outdoor portion. This is on 16x QAA, 16xAF. All resolutions are 1680x1050.

And for old times sake I installed W: ET and joined some old friends. Using NVidia's control panel, I custom set 16x QAA and 16xAF, and uncapped my fps. Was getting "Connection Interrupted" referring to my FPS was too high the game couldn't function properly. The numbers jumped too much because of this, but I was seeing numbers way in excess of 400.

And if you want /Value/ I'd look at a x850XT. Its what I used up until my GTX 280, and I must admit, its a helluva card. Was able to play cod4, everything min, at 48fps capped, sometimes diving down to 30, maybe 20 on an airstrike. CSS ran just fine. The FPS test checked out at 120-ish if I remember right. I bought the card for $150 so getting three good years of it was pretty good money. Nowadays you'd need to check e-bay for it but a good buy around $50 or $75 I'd imagine. Only thing is it lacks Shader Model 3.0, so check the requirements on your games make sure it doesnt need SM3.0.
