true, but the question is...do you think this is a good time(if you have the money) to put alittle into the market in hopes of getting a huge return later when the market recovers???

Well, I still think it's going to go down more, so I'd wait and see. Historically, if you put money in for the long term, you always come out on top.

2 ways of looking at this deal: It's a fire sale, or they lose their ass, as do you. Be careful what you buy, really careful.

A lot of stocks are 1/2 the value they should be. Companies like ESLR, NVDA, GLW and T are ALL undervalued and should, at the least, be 10 dollars higher than what they're currently priced. Mind you, these are "cheap" stocks, but they should be twice what they are. YHOO should also be higher, I can't believe this one tanked like it did. GOOG too, that stock should be 650+ dollars.

AIG, they'll recover, and they're damned lucky that they got the bail out that other companies didn't, like Enron, heh. What's killing this maket is all the damned defaulted loans for housing. It's killing the WORLD market, not just USA.

what about the 2 major mortgage companies that were taken over by the federal reserve as well? (private bank, it's not a gov. agency) now that bank owns a large percentage of americans' homes and has a ridiculous amount of power.

My problem with things like this is that if these companies make huge profits i see none of the money but if they go under i as the tax payer have to flip the bill to bail them out.Discuss that.

see that is true but at the same time it isn't. see everyone is just freaking out about something that is common place. especualy when they are one of the ones that have been loaning the government the money for the war effort and i got that from the news. they say that AIG has a loan out to the government that has an 85% interest rate on it or something like that. and the government is really just paying back most of what they owe to them. so in all reality it is not a loan from the government as it is them paying back what they have already taken.

i agree with you, the whole financial sector is in the shitter. but what i think makes all those companies different from aig is that aig is the giggest insurance company in the world. it has over 600 million customers all over the world. it IS a global company. the others are hard to really call global

One of the main problems in our ecnonomy now are all the financial instruments available to investors today, mostly derivatives.

The biggest problem is short-selling. Some investors find this type of investing very unethical (imagine that!). In part I agree because of the way investors use them in times like these. Short selling turns a small landslide into a massive avalanche. This creates a deeper pit to crawl out of which means as a whole it will take longer for the economy to recover. This is definitely the problem with the current economic situation.

I'm not a very ethical person when it comes to investing and if I had the money I probably would have been short selling my ass off. If it's legal I'm going to do it. That being said the SEC just placed a temporary ban on short selling 799 stocks on Friday.

I was looking forward to working for AIG when I graduate until I get my CERA and become a badass Risk Manager but I might have to look elsewhere now.

Canada is the land of the minority.
At least in Amerika you have Mexicans you can exploit and get rich with...

All we have is welfare abusing parasites. Sand AFRICAN AMERICANS that flee here from some shitty sand dune they used to call home and think they've earned the rights we so graciously give them.
