"Client 5 overflowed reliable channel.."

So yeah, in case this hasn't been posted this has been happening a shit-load lately. The server starts lagging heavily until it crashes itself and starts back up, only to continue in a cycle for about 15 mins (probably since everyone leaves).

For those of you that see me on, I usually play late at night when there aren't too many on the server. So this problem has nothing to do with the load we are putting on the server. I think.

Client 5 error deals with the voice chat channel and an exploit therein.

The admin files may have become too large and could be causing the problem.

I'm doing some research on the subject.

The number is basically random (I think). When I posted this I received 3 consecutive crashes, and the numbers were Client 1, then 5, then 12.

maybe there is a process leak on the server (not necessarily with our gameserver, but the machine running ours and however many others). i'm sure you talk to the server guys all the time, but they can check this for you.

I don't see how that would affect our server. In theory, each gameserver is run as a separate process or in an ideal situation in a virtual machine. The master server should have some kind of load balancing to prevent malicious users from exploiting the gameserver process to monopolize the machine's resources. It's more likely that the issue is being caused by the n00bfest server. If there was a way to affect other server running on a machine, I'm sure the effects would be more widespread, there are enough hackers out there that would love to kill off multiple servers at once.

Have we tried reinstalling the n00bfest server from scratch? This might be a case of an older plugin not playing nice with the latest updates from steam.

you may be right jet. i was just thinking of an issue i had with a server i used to run. if a process leaks, it eats up CPU usuage and could cause the lag we've been experiencing.

a fresh install of the server files could help as well, but i know this process can be a pain in the ass and a bit time consuming.

"Client # Overflowed Reliable Channel"

Your client number will be random each time you join the server. It should be a number between 1 and 32.

This could be a voice channel exploit, or simply a network issue. I've been watching ping trace graphs coming from Dallas over the past few weeks and there are terrible things happening at the server farm. I can't help but think it'll stop eventually. There's no way people will tolerate this kind of thing forever.

So far the only steadfast solution I've found is to party in the sh0ttyfest server.

63.209.35.80:27015

More updates as we resolve this.

I don't like them making rate changes to our server when the problem is being caused by network performance on their end. That's F*CKING lame.

"Yes, I know you can see the problem and it's our fault, but maybe you can change some things on your end so you can't tell we suck anymore"

Nice solution, assfucks.

Rest assured, I'm on it.

Gah...

You can always just add in the name "At the end of the month, IP changes to xx.xxx.xx.xxx:27015"

I don't know if things are better for the same price but, for 5 bucks tops more we could get a better server.

yeah, i had my servers through gameservers.com before, and everytime something went wrong i'd raise all sorts of hell. they were usually pretty good at helping get it fixed. i do remember having to reinstall the server once or twice over the period of a year and a half. maybe that's all we need? i wish i could do more to help Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_32
