this thread kinda died, but i just wanted to add that a friend of mine bought me the audio book of "90 minutes in heaven" a story about someone who died for a little over 90 minutes and was brought back to life by prayer, not medical aid. i thought it was a bit odd starting out, but it's an amazing book.

If there was NOTHING after death, there wouldn't be any paranormal activity in the world. I think we've seen enough verifiable paranormal activity documented world-wide to confirm that SOMETHING remains after we die.

The body is only a vessel. My C*CK is your vessel's cargo. Transport it gently.

That something can be anything from a random memory repeating itself to a personality embedded in the location but that doesn't necessarily make it an actual conscious being.

Is taking a hugemongus dump in a toilet and leaving it there without flushing a sin, or is that just embedding it in a location?

That's true in some cases. In others, there appears to be interaction. Either way, it proves the existence of energy beyond the confines of the human body.

I have no doubt there is some sort of existence after death. No living being knows "exactly" what that existence is like, though. I believe in God, but the Bible uses so many symbolic references (and it's been modified by agenda-wielding editors) that I don't necessarily believe in a lake-of-fire hell or a streets-of-gold heaven.

Everything else in the Bible gets interpreted and translated from it's native symbolism-speak into things that seem relevant. However, when you get to the eternal damnation and burning hell descriptions, every priest, pastor and preacher seem to take it at face value and refuse to interpret that as symbolism.

The not-so-hidden agenda? Be good and you get a giant mansion on a street of gold and get to live eternally, flying in the clouds and praising/worshiping God forever. Be bad and you get tossed into molten lava where you will suffer and be covered in maggots and suffer the most extreme agony for all eternity. Hmmm.... scare tactics and bribery, anyone? I do not believe this is the plan that our Lord has for us. This is the work of MEN. Engineered societal controls and nothing more. It's a shame that it's worked so successfully because it's really not that clever if you think about it in it's simplest terms.

/controversial opinion

That's basically what I believe in. I believe in God, but I don't see him as the biblical type. Instead, I believe that he's just an extra-dimensional being that began the universe and is holding it together.

The thing is, you have to Think outside the box, or the earth in this case. If God created mankind, then why are there intelligent life forms outside our galaxy. It's not like we're the only beings in the universe that can think or love. Therefore, if God created the bible, why does it only apply to humanity and earth, but not throughout the universe. The universe is vast and it's tangible proof that God did not create "religions" or "bibles." But instead, he created life and 1 of its smallest units, the atom.

I believe that there is a subatomic particle in every atom that creates the soul or some kind of atomic memory. We just haven't discovered it and probably won't for a long time.
It's this 'soulon' (Ohhh see what I did there?) that continues existence. I've read about controversial experiments where scientists measured people as they were dying and found out that they lost 0.001 kg (around there) as soon as they died. It could've been gas, they're not sure. The point is, we don't just "black out" when we die. Our existence continues somehow and we are concious of it after we die.

first of all, God did not create the bible. if you have read the bible or studied anything about it's history, you would know the bible was created by man through witnessing these "biblical" events. the bible is a compilation of writings that different people made during the days of jesus (new testament). the old testament is a little harder to digest, because it was supposedly written by man during the beginning of creation, but the history is very hard to follow that long ago.

second of all, i'm not sure that it is stated anywhere that God only created earth and the people on earth and not any other planets or life forms. this will always be a controversial topic until there is hard evidence of life outside earth. who knows if God tried creating us a few times before He perfected it; there is just no way to tell.

i am not disagreeing with your theory about life occuring at the subatomic level, as i have pondered the exact same thing several times. the only thing we really have to go by is the bible, because it is written acocunts from multiple perspectives of the same events. if you research the history behind it, you will see that the most scientific/archeological evidence supports the general stories and events it speaks of.

i love the fact that this thread exists and we're able to discuss this. christianity/faith is something i put on the backburner for a very long time, and i'm just coming back around and rediscovering things, so it's great to have people to talk to about it.

When I talk about ghosts embedded in the earth I mean the actual personality of the person. If you programmed a computer (we aren't able to do this yet, but it's certainly possible) to have a personality based off of an individual, that computer can in theory respond just as the person would. Ghosts are somewhat like that in my opinion, only they're imprints of the person's personalities in a physical location. It doesn't mean they're sentient, they're just reacting how the person would have if he were still there.

In my opinion there hasn't been a single event that can prove life after death to me. Humans in general believed in tons of shit back in the day and alot of it has been explained away now or we've discovered scientific non-miraculous explanations for it. We as a race are actually finding out too much and the more we find out, the more we're gonna find shit out that explains our existence. If only we could let go of morality and ethics and modern "humanity" we might have already discovered whether god exists or not.

I challenge you to show me a part of the Bible that describes hell as a fiery inferno.

The idea was Dante's. It's not in the Bible as far as I know. I invite someone to prove me wrong. From what I remember, atleast in the old testament, the only mention of hell in the bible describes it as a dark place. There may be something in Revelations that I'm missing, but I'm pretty sure that the fiery lake of hell bullshit is an invention of a famous writer that got the attention of the Church when they found out that they could use that as another lever against the population.

There's at least 5 references in Revelations to the "lake of fire":

19:20
20:10
20:14
20:15
21:8

I found several more references to a fiery hell, but interestingly enough, they're all from the New Testament. The books of the Old Testament have TONS of references to hell and NONE of them mention burning or flames.

Here's some of the other New Testament references. I can't tell if any of these are supposed to be quotes from Jesus himself or just the messages of the disciples. Could be interesting to uncover that riddle, too.

Matthew 5:22
But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.

Matthew 18:9
And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.

Mark 9:43
And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Mark 9:45
And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:

Mark 9:47
And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:

James 3:6
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
