First real question, has anyone seen the movie AKIRA?

Well, I ordered it from Wal-Mart a week ago and it finally came yesterday, so I got off the computer and began to watch it. I was glued to the television for two hours, and after watching it, I had promised to call my girlfriend. First thing I said to her was that AKIRA was the biggest mind trip of a Japanese animation film... Ever.

That movie's still got me nervously twitching. >_<

Akira was groundbreaking, but it's really old. I got to see it in the theater on an oldschool movie night about 5 years ago and that was pretty cool (along with Evil Dead). The best old school anime hands down is the original Vampire Hunter D.

It's extremely overrated. The animation was nice, but if the movie had a dick, you guys would really be suckin it.

Vampire Hunter D was nice.

These are movies btw, and you can't really compare them to series.

It was manga and a film; that's all. =P

They made the film from the manga, and I've read the manga too and it's really good.

I'm not tryin to be mean, it's just that people over hype it and think it's the best movie ever made just because everyone else says it was. Just kinda annoys me when there's tons of other great movies and/or series they could be watching.

Well yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I'm not trying to say that Akira was the best movie ever made and everything else sucks, I'm just trying to say that it's a damned good movie. Hell, I don't constantly watch it though; I love watching Battlestar Galactica, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and shit like Aqua Teen Hunger Force, including a few other flicks.

Most underrated anime series ever is Escaflowne. NGE was good, but the last few episodes and the movies ruined it. If you want to check out a new anime that blew me away, look up Ergo Proxy.

Personally I would have loved it if they had made the whole series in the style of that alternate reality, you know what I'm talking about? It would be kindof like a school comedy thing. Guys go watch a movie called Dead Leaves. It's pretty cool. I heard Serial Experiments Lain was creepy, I watched maybe 3 episodes and was too scared to go on.

It was REALLY good, at least that's what I think. Wasn't anime, just live action; but still pretty good.

Another good one is GTO, aka Great Teacher Onizuka. They have an anime and a live action, both are good in my opinion.

I've heard of that before, but haven't seen it.
