Media Influence

Though everybody seems to enjoy blaming the media for all of life’s problems,
they never do anything more than go on Dr. Phil and complain. Nobody seems
to think that parental, peer or other societal issues are the cause. If a parent
swears around their children, and the child begins to curse, the blame is
misplaced. Let’s do the math: Cussing parents + Imitative child = Corrupt media.

Is it possible that “We the people” just don’t understand that if we were to eliminate
anything conceived as impossible or something children may try to replicate,
we would have to annihilate imagination? Comics Books, Fictitious Books, many
Television shows, movies and games would have to become a thing of the past.
Then we all become a big, happy, totalitarian society and just believe everything
we’re told to believe, but wait, we were shown what would (in my opinion) likely
happen with a government like that, IN A FICTIONAL MOVIE!

If video games and movies are so hazardous to life itself, if they desensitize
your children, make them jump off buildings and cause grievous bodily harm to
others, why don’t parents all around the country go out on a limb and stop buying them?
Do Americans think that Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden did what they did
because they played “Goldeneye: 007” for Nintendo 64? Of course not, some
people are just angry, sadistic, insane people who just want to cause pain.

I alluded to the jumping off of buildings in particular because fairly recently,
a child did this, the blame was placed on The Matrix. Personally, I think that if some kid jumps
off a building, s/he was a little “off” to begin with. I think a more responsible
culprit would have been, “Mary Poppins.” Does nobody wonder how many children
were killed or badly hurt because they were dumb enough to jump off of their roof
with umbrellas?

The biggest conflict of all, if imaginative media and other fiction were to be abolished,
what would become of Religion? We certainly couldn’t portray every Religion,
because if one went against another’s teachings, we would have wars, protests,
riots and a side of mass-panic. Not only this, we would lose millions of jobs, and
we would lose billions of dollars without commercial income.

So what it comes down to is, eliminate media, imagination, religion and countless
jobs, or, let those dumb enough to think they can fly eliminate themselves.
Do we want to take the easy way out, blame everybody else, or do we want to accept
that’s it our own fault, and improve how we’re raising our kids? Should we?

Sry, that was uncalled for. Deep post, and it's an insightful look into recent media incidents, specifically their bias (however unconscious) against children doing what they enjoy, and parents who try their best to raise children.

All this is doing is creating insecurities and paranoia about raising children properly, and creating incidents involving parents locking their children away from the world in order to stunt their exposure to negative stimuli, while in fact causing nothing more than stunting their social development and creating more Jeffrey Dahmer or Charles Manson sorts of people.

Oh, for the record that was written almost 2 years ago, I just found it recently.

I agree Apok, people just want scapegoats so they don't have to say to themselves that it is there own fault. People are so vain that they cannot believe that any fault can or should be placed on them. TV and video games never desensitized it was the way other people could act to each other that made me give up hope on the human race. I really cannot wait till we die out.

Boycott the media! Spanking is the way to go!

Shun them, shun the non-believers.




I actually wonder how many people really WERE injured due in some part to Mary Poppins.

Like I said when you first let me read it Apok, it's F*CKING great and everyone can learn a thing or two from it.

That's not to say that the media isn't somewhat reponsible. Too much of anything, in this case, media exposure, isn't good. It comes down to poor judgement.

It all comes down to the parents, they need to teach their children the basic principles of right from wrong, fiction from reality. I don't really recall my parents telling me not to jump from skyscrapers, but I watched Lethal Weapon all the time from when I was about 2 years old and so far no suicide building jumps have been made.
