How will carpet ruin it?

EDIT: Ohhhh, actually building the computer....a friend and I built it on my tile floor, but I'm sure a table/wood would be fine.

Electro Static build-up on your carpet can give off a charge that'll F*CK it up.

roll around on the carpet first, I recommend the electric slide for another pre-build technique. Make sure it's storming outside and it's humid as hell.

If you're sitting on carpet? Hell no. If you're on a non-conductive surface, then yes.

I've built like 4 computers on the carpet. As long as you don't do stupid things like rub your socks on the carpet or your head against a balloon. And don't touch the surface of the components.

lol, now i expect everyone to laph at this post.....

i fried my motherboard about 4 months ago. I did this by cleaning off the guts of my computer because it was making a noise from the fans. when i opend it up the whole thing was like covered in dust... well, i was stupid and didnt know about alll of this electo magnetic static bullshit. and i took the vacume cleaner to it. put it back together and boom, fried the motherboard.

130$mistake.

advice: dont use a vacume on your computer :)

any kind of dry space that gives you enough room to build will work. Work bench, kitchen table, kitchen counter...only if it's a decent sized kitchen away from the sink or jars that have any liquid in them.

Carpet...yes, if you have static wrist bands. If not wear shoes and touch the case itself before touching the hardware inside.

To clean, just take it outside, crank up the blower.
