Post CS:S modifications
Steam news

The second facet of this release will be a completely reworked radar system. There will be a significant change to the aesthetics of the radar, but there are also some fairly significant gameplay ramifications to the new system. One example: when you look directly at an enemy for a long enough time for their name to appear on your screen, everyone on your team will be able to see that enemy in the radar. We're planning on releasing this first update in about two weeks.

I never use the radar.

By the time I notice my team member has died im always late on the radar to find out where he died so I just say F*CK it.

Never us it.

I think this is a great addition to the game, and it should add to the realism. In real life, if you saw an enemy you could report their position to your squad, so why not here?

I wonder if it'll show a static position or if it'll track the enemy movement.

Could be very interesting, and it'll definately slow down the run-and-gun approach.

Ventrilo and in-game chat is as realistic as it gets. I don't know of anything currently where you can look at your enemy and everyone else will instantly be able to track their position.

I could really see this helping out all the nubs. Basically you have the nubs scout out the enemy for the leets to eliminate.

BF2 comes to mind.. Especially when the UAV is in the air.

You are never going to get even 50% of the people in a random server to be in ventrillo or use in game chat. And even if you did most people dont report when they see an enemy.

I wouldn't mind if it was able to be toggled. I just was thinking in a scarm. I guess it'd be ok in pubs, but then again over half the people aren't paying attention anyways.

This isn't Advanced Warfighter or anything, there are plenty more things they could improve on other than the radar.

It may have a sv_ or mp_ so it can easily be turned off. If not most people are going back to 1.6/cz.

I think it shows up whenever you see their name on-screen, it'll show the position. I doubt it will really track the position of the player for so long.

the game isn't intended to be realistic. games that try and be realistic are generally horrible games, this is counter-strike, not tom clancy's rainbox six or anything that trys to be completely realistic and similar to a real-life situation.

so much for "competitive" source.
