Guess where I spent my morning...
with no coffee, no ciggies, no light, and no A/C...
http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/05/25/train. ... index.html
4 hours stuck under the Hudson River in a smelly sweltering train(I was on the second to last train evacuated).. Thank you Congress and the Bush Administration for cutting funding to Amtrak so Amtrak would be doomed to fall apart at the seams because they cannot afford capital improvements. I hope all your limos breakdown in the middle of a Beltway traffic jam on the hottest day of the year. It would serve you crooks right.

Hmmm hawt b0is3x0rZ FTW! Hope you like being bottom.. wink wink... :D
NYC isn't all that bad. Well at least midtown isn't. Hey I've survived 9/11(barely), Blackout 2003(partied like it was 1999), and now this. What really sucked was that I couldn't have a Marlboro. I even told the Conductor I'd go out on the tunnel catwalk(normally used by maint and rescue workers). It used to be that countries were judged by their railroads (the UK still has the best IMHO). Amtrak is a direct reflection on how shitty our country has become. The NorthEast Corridor (NEC) running from DC to NYC is the most heavily travelled railsystem in the US, and it is falling apart. With the cost of fuel going through the ceiling our Goverment should be pouring money into the national rail system to get more cars and trucks off the road. I personally like riding on trains. You can get to see alot more from a train than you could flying several miles up. The same could be said about survivabilty. In a airplane several miles up, and something happens the most likely outcome you become is a flaming hole in the ground (usually with no survivors). Have you ever heard of a train accident where all the passengers were killed (an overpacked train in India going too fast and goes straight off a cliff doesn't count). Don't get me wrong I have nothing against air travel(I do it often enough), I just prefer to ride the rails than to fly the friendly skies.

I think derailing in a train is alot more common that crashing in an commercial jet.

Amtrak has doomed themselves by raising prices when times get tough. Instead of trying to improve the number of customers they have, they try to improve the amount of profit per customer instead. If they can't manage a business without government assistance, then someone else should take it over.

And in most cases with a derailment you have injuries (bumps and bruises), in a plane crash most cases all onboard are killed. Your chances of surviving a derailemnt are much greater, than a plane crash. You chances in being in one or the other are about equal. Crayola wrote: I wanna hear your story on how you missed 9/11. So get typing, please. It's been posted a couple of times here. But here is the cliffnotes version. Was in mezzaine of the North Tower when the first plane hit. Hung out helping Emergency Services (former EMT) until the 2nd plane hit. Beat feet before the towers got pulled. I have to disagree with you Corpse. But to debate this issue would require a thread of it's own. But I will say Amtrak was doomed from day 1 because Congress insisted that "they" maintain control (along with USDOT) of Amtrak.. It is also hard to compete with airlines that use their taxpayer paid subsidies to keep their prices artifically lower, but cut back on (as well as petitioning the FAA to loosen the rules on aircraft maint(which they got)) maintaining their aircraft, payroll, and other niceities. Amtrak as it stands right now is down to the barebone. The airlines are running losses much higher than Amtrak(hence the constant restructuring which we the taxpayer wind up footing the bill). Yet an airline CEO will make 3-4x more than Amtrak's CEO. With the advent of cheap gas(well not so cheap anymore), superhighways, and airlines railroading both as a freight and passenger service has been pushed ot the wayside. But I do take great comfort looking out from my window seat on the train at the stopped traffic on the NJ Turnpike going both to and from NY.

So the other tower got hit you went to help them. Then the tower you were in before you helped out got hit.

Ahhh.. That gave me a headache... But I was in the ground floor concourse to the North Tower (the first tower hit), and left after the South Tower got nailed. At that point as a civilian there was not much else I could do. I would have only gotten in the way.
