Are you 18 yet Kitten? If you are you might be able to look into getting a private insurance policy, might be expensive, but I doubt its more then 30k, might be an option for ya?

Yeah, I'm 19. So that's pretty much out of the question.

Thanks, everyone, for your support.

Well you should look into, you just have to be over 18, being 19 would be fine. You may have a waiting period before you can hit the insurance for it, but it might be worth a try to save 30k.

Oh, I thought you meant under 18. I'll definately have to check that out in the morning. Thanks for the idea.

Dude, this is gonna sound weird, but you are so lucky. I think it's awesome that you have someone in your life that actually gives a shit. So many people go through life with friends and family that supposedly "care" about them, but they're never willing to make a sacrifice.

I hate the fact that your dad has to take these steps to make it happen for you. But I admire you for having a dad that is willing to try this for you. That's awesome.

Best of luck to you. Hope it all works out for the best. You and your family will be in my prayers. Mark it on your calendar, because when I pray, God hears me. Things will work out, you'll see.

You've been like a brother to me Steve. I honestly will have you and your father in my prayers. I feel bad that your dad is taking the steps, but i'm glad because you actually have a father that cares enough to do it for you. Everything will get better, you know you have your gaurdian angels watching over you too. Much love bro.

Kitten as bad as this situation is, your father is working for his son, his blood. I would be very proud to have a father like him, I am sorry that he may not be able to retire, but this just means his son will have a long and healthy life, and that is all he really wants. Kitten I hope the surgery goes well, and I know that you will pull through. I do not belive in the power of prayer, but for you my friend, I will. Keep us informed, and let us know how you are doing. And please tell your father from n00bfest, thank you, and we salute him.

~Sean~

GL Kitten :D

Prayers and thoughts lift up you and your family. 8)

Take time to spend with your Fathers, all of you. Mine passed from cancer in his 50s and I was too busy with myself during my 20s and I fooled myself thinking he would live to be at least 80 and we would have time to sit around and catch up on things. Take the time now.

Bro, Your dads the man we all want to be, but few of us have the sack to stay the course. It's easier for all these dead beat bastards to walk away from their responsibilities.

I hope everything turns out well for you and your family kitten. God Bless.

Which Tricare do you have? I remember when I was still a dependent of my Dad's Tricare Prime policy, they seemed to treat us well. I had coverage until I graduated from college, and then I had to pick up my own policy. Is the surgery having to be done in the private sector? I know I had it good because I would be able to just go to Bethesda Naval Hospital, so maybe that's why I had a totally different experience. Good luck man.

Your Dad is cool in my book.
Family unity, I like that.

I hope all goes well with the surgery!
Then you can have a washboard stomach, and get all the honeys.

Thanks again, everyone.

The surgeon has been pulling strings all day and managed to get the price reduced to around $17,000. He's also going to talk to the LAP-BAND corporation to get their insurance team to try and win over Tri-Care. Things are already looking better.

There has got to be a way other than your dad having to eat 30k in debt.If the surgery can wait, just get a policy from the cheapest provider that will cover it and wait out the preexisting clause.

Also try to work something out with the surgeon to lower his costs.I remember when i had my back surgery the doc made off with over 15k for four hours of work. That was just the surgeons fee! I'm sure he could lower his costs and not go broke. And see what you can find by just surfing the web,you might be amazed.

If your dad does get the cash and you have this done you need to make damn sure you do your part to make it a success. And hire him the hottest hooker you can find for fathers day.Make that two.
