Post College Laptop
I am looking at laptops for school, perhaps also for gaming. Basically, I spent the last few days visiting colleges (UVA, UNC, Duke). UNC told me that they required laptops, but they charged $3000 for some kind of IBM laptop and the school would sell it to you. I know I can almost buy an alienware laptop for this price and am looking for other options

I found:
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6834115197
and
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.a ... 6834114182
in just a quick search at newegg.com

I was wondering if these laptops are up to date for both efficient work/research as well as decent gaming computers. Thanks for any insightful replies.

The following link contains the system specifications of the laptop that is sold to students. The down side is that the laptops I've found are much cheaper and $3000, but then the laptop/computer technicians may not have replacement parts if I F*CK mine up. I'm in a dilemna. These specs aren't poor either.

At least from what i can tell one of the more important things on a laptop is battery life... after going to northwestern for a month this summer if you dont have a battery that lasts long enough to take notes in class you will end up in trouble because at least there most of the classes have 2-4 outlets that the teacher normally uses for his/her stuff.

Actually the T43 laptop they are offering is a pretty decent laptop(but the price is a bit steep, then again you are getting the 4 year warranty (normally 1 year standard/Free) and that isn't cheap!). As for the Acer and Toshiba (especially) getting them repaired is going to be a bitch(no BestBuy/CompUSA repairs for you, and if an ARC isn't close by you are screwed). They don't mention which model T43 but judging by the specs it is one of the high-end units. The T43's that my clients have (over 100 deployed units) have been the least troublesome of the newer T series. You can play CZ and Source on it (I do it with my A31p Thinkpad with almost the same specs). Bear in mind most Fortune 500 companies use Thinkpads. ANother one of my clients dumped their Dell laptops in favor of the Thinkpads. Then again Dell laptops are flimsy POS's (the same goes for Sony VAIO's).
