Killswitch Engage is better than most of these, at least live. I enjoy Slipknot but they're more pop than metal compared to most other bands on that list. The others, I honestly haven't heard so my statements above are pretty much apropos of nothing.
I sometimes listen to metal and it's usually Metallica, AC/DC or Dio. The only metal bands I've seen live are Job For A Cowboy (not memorable), Killswitch Engage (amazing), Trivium (okay, one member is from my state), Bullet For My Valentine (sucked ass), Marilyn Manson (Not bad if he isn't COMPLETELY fucked up on drugs), Slayer (not the best, but certainly virtuoso) and probably some others I can't remember off the top of my head.
When I was in 1st grade, my parents bought me a jean jacket with a Metallica patch ironed on the back and let me grow a mullet. I actually had the CD version of ...and Justice For All when I was in Kindergarten. That was in the 80's and "One" was the big video on MTV. The first cassette tape I ever bought for myself was "Slaughter - Stick It To Ya" and the first CD I ever bought myself was "Green Day - Insomniac". I spent my early adulthood listening to indy punk off the labels "Fat Wreck Chords" and "Hopeless Records". A lot of my friends are in punk or metal bands:

That's pretty sick! My mom surprisingly listened to metal in her younger years. She loves killswitch engage and metallica. Not to much a fan of slipknot. (they scare her) lol. Not into to many older bands such as slayer and metallica. I used to listen to them a lot but stopped a long time ago. The first type of metal I even heard was japenese metal from this one band that my 2nd older brother listened to. My first american band was slipknot. Then killswitch engange, etc. Greeley estates is a new band I started to listen to last year. There ok. Same for Suicide silence and all shall perish.

My mom can't stand metal. My dad doesn't listen to it anymore, as far as I can see but he went to an AC/DC show during their "We Salute You" tour where they fired cannons into the audience.
How about punk? This song is just lol.

I do listen to some metalcore bands like Trivium, All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, Parkway Drive. But my favorite metal/rock bands of alltime are Van Halen, Ratt, Dokken, Extreme, Loudness, Impelliteri, Racer X, Mr Big, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Queen. I dont really like Death Metal or Black Metal i do listen to some Thrash Metal like Metallica, Megadeth, Exodus, Testament.

All That Remains, As I Lay Dying, and Parkway Drive are some other bands that I listen to as well as my top 5. Any bands you have in mind that I should check out Metalgod?

Are you into any hard rock bands? If so i would suggest Black Label Society, Wolfmother, Whitesnake, Michael Schenker Group. Now if you're into Power Metal i suggest Stratovarius, Primal Fear, Sonata Arctica, Nightwish. And if you like 80s hairbands i suggest Ratt, Dokken, LA Guns, Guns n'Roses, W.A.S.P. Motley Crue, Lynch Mob.

Re: Just To Ask
theres a serious lack of SOAD in here
one of my fav songs by them, by farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Slipknot is a joke. They're faggots. You want metal? Well then.
ATR is not bad. Killswitch is not bad. In Flames old is F*CKING awesome, newer shit, more mainstream. (Not trying to be a hipster, but listen to it, you'll know what I'm talking about.) This Ending - Boss Metal. Pantera - Boss Metal. Metallica - Boss Thrash. Amon Amarth - Boss Metal. Diecast - Boss Metal. Lamb of God - BOSS Metal. Arch Enemy - They're not bad. Dark Tranquility - Not bad. Dethklok - (In all seriousness) Boss Metal. Opeth - Extremely Boss metal. Slayer - You've got to be kidding me. If this isn't in your metal collection, kill yourself. Soilwork - Pretty good. Black Dhalia Murder - Boss metal. Through the eyes of the Dead - Boss Metal.
I listen to new stuffs all the time, more metal, more awesome.

Not metal, I agree. There's too much melody and transitions into very non-metal genres for it to 'be' metal, but that's like saying that Metallica's not metal because they did Unforgiven (not really, because Metallica doesn't genre hop like crazy).
Also, I love this one: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yndfqN1VKhY">

Thats the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
I can no longer take any music opinion from you seriously and will now refuse to talk music with you ever again.

I think Strange nailed it with the Slayer reference they really have some great albums like Show No Mercy, Hell Awaits, Reign in Blood, South of Heaven, Seasons in the Abyss

I'll ask you this: What IS metal, and I mean using actual words and not "SLAYER!!!" because that doesn't explain shit. In other words, what is it, out of all the various genres of music which have ridiculously loud distorted guitars and monster riffs, pounding drums and lots of aggression...what is it that MAKES a band "Metal", and don't give me some ethos bullshit.
