I'm interested in the PC version if it actually works, since everything else I've tried doesn't.

The PC version's graphics and music are way worse in a lot of the parts, and when I had it... it was very very unstable and gay. PS version for the win!

I went out and bought a copy of the PSX version today, but I can't find an emulator to run it and I don't have a PSX or a PSone or a PS2 or a PStwo to run it :(

I'd feel very confident in saying I'm the biggest FF Fan in this forum. With that, let me tell you all that there is NO SECRET MATERIA in the PC version.
Also, the PC version blows nuts. This guy did a pretty good PC review of the game.

Everything he said is right on the money and true. (Read it in full, because you might get thrown off at first by his opinion of the graphics)
