 computer over-heating?
I think my computers over-heating. I use to be able to run steam,cz,aim, and vent at the same time with no problem. Now it lags me. And I get little black flashing boxes sometimes when I play cz.. What should I do?

I'm not that good with overheating problems, but the what I would do goes like this:
First off, open your case up and leave it open and just let the case ventilate while it's running. This will help with airflow.
Second, I'd get a can of air dusters and dust off EVERYTHING.
Third, especially if you built this yourself, get the wires under control. Get some zip ties and tie them together wehre you can to get the wires nice and neat because they clutter WILL overheat your system due to lack of airflow.
And what I'm going to do with my computer is duct some of my window A/C unit straight into my computer ghetto style.

Sounds like you have dust clogging up stuff. Take care of it immediately, or you will damage your shit permanently.

Pay special attention to the fins on the cpu, chipset, and video card. Some people clean out their system and leave those clogged up and they still burn out.

I hadn't cleaned my computer out once in 4 years, and I took it to Corpses house. He dusted it out with a leaf blower...and I swear to God atleast a pound of dust came out of it. There were golfball size dust bunnies in that bitch.

If you're concerned about overheating of components, I recommend a quick download of "Everest Home Edition" from www.lavalys.com . It's a nice freeware package that can monitor temps on GPU, CPU, HDD, MoBo, fan speeds, memory timings, etc, etc.

I was expecting what gman said even through my comp is only 2 years old. I got a lot of dust out but i was expecting HUGE dust bunnies. What i think happened was that it clogged up my heatsink. But i think its fixed now

Ocelot you n00b, plastic can create static.
I should know, I worked at a print shop where we printed the bags for Frito Lays and other chip mfr's, and you wouldn't believe the static discharges that the rolls of plastic film unwinding on the press would let off. You
could hear them halfway across the plant.
