Post SUSE Linux 9.3
ahhhhhh! frustration!

I did an install of SUSE and got rid of the partitions that windows made.
So, bye bye Windows! *sniff* *sniff*

anyways, I ran into all kinds of neat problems.

I managed to get Point to Play to install, and it downloaded Cedega, and all the other goodies along with it.

I Installed the game I wanted to test out (Guild Wars)..and everything seemed to be working fine.

Until, I ran some tests for my video card.
It's just a spare Nvidia card I had sitting around, and it works good.
But the motherboard on my other computer (which is what I wanted to test Linux on) has an onboard video card.
This thing was causing hardware conflicts, because I couldn't get the hardware settings inside Yast.
Kept giving me a black screen.

After trying to disable the onboard card in the bios screen, and reading the motherboard manual to see if it could be disabled by jumper settings....I found nothing.

I counldn't play the game.

I went to some Linux forums to try and find out if anyone else had the same problem, and found out it can't be fixed. HAH!

I'll keep trying anyways.

Other than that, I messed around with the messager program, and got my yahoo set up with it. (works good, only still no support for webcams) :(

Gimp is freaking awesome, I love that program!!
I played around with this program for awhile, and created some weird art!
tee-hee!!!

That onboard card really messed me up, but I could surf the web (I made some posts on n00bfest with it), and checked my e-mail and some bs like that.

I really like the OS, and the features it has.

I will do a dual boot on my main system, and see how that works out.
I don't have any onboard stuff on there, just sound.

I know not many people are interested in this post.
Most of you just like talking about Counterstrike, but I really want to make a switch over to Linux to learn something new.

It's going to give me a hard time, but hey so did Windows 95 when I first started using that, and I don't even have to mention 98. :P

(3.1 was really stable, but you couldn't really do shit with 3.1 except run spreadsheets...and play nibbles)

Never tried SuSE. I'm using Fedora Core now, and it looks like the bomb of the *nix distros.

It's free, buttery smooth, very frequently updated, and delicious.

Fedora Core is a Ret Hat Project.

And Mandrake is good too, I've used that before.
I learned how to crash with Mandrake.

Just f'ing around with it.

I'm going to go the full 9 with Linux now.
No dualbooting shit.

I also downloaded Fedora Core 4 to test it out since Corpsehumper suggested it.

Still looking for a chat program in Linux that supports webcam.
That's important to me.

I was using Fedora Core 4 as well. It's great stuff. I think you'll have a better time with it.

I didn't use Fedora Core :(

But I got Guild Wars to work in SUSE 9.3 woot!!

It's still windows though LOL! (the emulator uses a fake install of windows)

I'm going to try and install yahoo messenger in wineX :P
Kopete is what I'm using now, and I haven't figured out how to get the webcam to work yet.

I'll probably end up using Mandrake, but i have a few questions! I know the answers to some of these but most im only asking to get info about any glitches, conflicts etc.

1)Any Conflicts with steam...?
2)Any conflicts with AIM...?
3)Can I run basic PC monitoring Programs, such as PowerStrip, Riva Tuner etc.
4)Which does it work better conflict wise with, Nvidia or Radeon cards, Because im looking at an Nvidia 6800, or a radeon x800.
5)Last but not least, Any conflicts with simple Hardware such as, S-video outputs or DVI and USB stuff (mouse ,keyboard, Cams specifically)

1) Yes.
2) Yes.
3) No.
4) Both are fine.
5) No.

Now, to clarify: Linux is a completely different operating system. You'll end up doing most installations manually. You'll have to use different packages than Windows because Linux does not support .exe files unless you get a Windows Emulator.

Steam will work with Point 2 Play and Cedega. Linux comes with gAIM which is an all around messaging program for AIM, MSN, Yahoo, et cetra.

You won't be able to use those Windows programs, but with enough time an dedication, you can tweak it all yourself manually.

Basically all hardware is supported by Linux.

See above statement.
