Ok so i have been checking the value of my car and i see that the trade in and regular sale prices have gone up over the last year. At this time my car is valued for more than what i owe on it.

Do you guys think it is a good idea to trade it in and get a cheaper car?

The other option i am thinking of is seeing what the doge dealer will give me for my fusion and getting the car i wanted back when i had to buy this one. If i trade it in and the dealer gives me the full trade in value I will get about 15k for the trade in and i only owe 11k and the car i really want is 25k so i will end up with two notes that total around 20k. The monthly payments on my current car are close to nothing only 250 a month. I crunched some numbers and if i were to trade it in and get the car i really want i would essentially have paid 27k for it when its all said and done. If i just keep my car i only end up paying about 16k + interest.

The best option would be to just sell my car on my own but ive never done that and i dont know how that would work with the buyer getting a loan etc. If i did this KBB has my car valued at 17.5k. I would be able to pay the note off in full and have 7.5k to put towards the new car.

the best thing to do is to sell your car to a private party and take the cash to the dealership. You will get a way better deal that way and you will make more money off your car.

Hmm.. Now the real deal is you should not get a car that's more then 1/4th of your take he pay.
Since a car usually will only go down I'n value..hmm o don't understand stand why you say you would have two notes.. The way I see it.. You will have about 4000bugs to get this other car you want.. Or 7000 either way.. You will still have a higher monthly payment if you buy the new car .. Since you will have to pay (let's say you got your 7000) and the car you want is 27k you still have to pay 20k and that will be higher monthly payment.. Then the one your paying now.. Doing the sell on your own is not harder.. You just tell the bank to transfer the note to the new guy..or title since you payed it off.. With the money you got.. all this does not matter though.. I would not buy a car that's more then a 1/4 of your take home pay.. It's a car.. It needs to bring you from a to b and nothing els... You will have toooo Mach of your montly income in a car that will only go down in value..

Next time your in a car driving around listen to Dave Ramsey from 12pm to 4pm at AM radio 550 MHz..
Or look him yup on the iintranetz he will give you the best advise about your money..you can call him and ask I never did..Just look him up.. The idear is to be Dead free.. And have about 6month of living expensive saved.... for life.. In case you lose your job or something happends..I will have payed of 17k in 2 years on the end of this year.. Because of him.. And I will be dead free.. And finally able to buy what ever I want because then I will have a extra 1000k a month that are right now going on bills.. This sucks.. banks make you or try to keep you in dead for life..

Dave Ramsey is where its at for real. Also Vip im not sure if you meant to spell it "dead" on purpose but its spelled "debt" ;) Just lookin out brother. I used to have a german foreign exchange student so I know how it goes.

yeah i wasnt sure how it would work checked some more stuff out today and i would not have two notes. My current note would be paid off and i would just have the note for the new car. If i decided to get a more expensive car it will make my pmts more but if i get a cheaper car i will save some money. I will see what i can get in trade in value and depending on how close to the kelly blue book they give me i will decide if i am going to sell it myself or just do the trade in.

If your other car is a gas sucker and you want to save some cash there, it's probably worth it. I went from paying 70-100/week in gas to around 70/month by trading in my (beautiful) truck. If it isn't a gas issue, I'd keep the old car and pay it off - then keep it till it is beyond repair. The other guy had a point about the Dave Ramsey stuff too. I've been on the Dave Ramsey track for a couple of years now, I've "broken" a couple of his rules, or bended them to suit my needs, but his advice is sound. Buy his book and heed his advice. You won't regret it. There is a long story associated with this, but I won't go into it right now, hehe, tldr and such.
