This entirely depends on your budget.

Springfield and Colt make awesome 1911s. Taurus makes some cheaper ones that are still decent. Kimber makes some nicer (more expensive) 1911s.

You looking to buy new or used? What's your budget?

Post Re: 1911 pistol
I was just online myself last night looking at 1911 pistols. I dont know that much about them and hope some more members post to this thread. No me personally I like Sig Sauer guns period!
heres a direct link to the 1911's that Sig offers. Now I do know this lot of Police, Swat, and Special forces will only use a Sig pistol.....you can read this on many forms and what not.

Seriously though Crzyninja there are a lot of great 1911's out there best thing I can recommend is go rent a few different ones and fire a few rounds through them to see what you might like.

A nice introductory kimber is the Target model: http://www.kimberamerica.com/1911/custo ... -target-ii..

It's extremely accurate and reliable out of the box, and you can save some of that cash on ammo and extra magazines etc.

Edit: I do have to tell you to take a good hard look at CZ's 1911 replacements (75B, or the 75 Shadow if you're looking for something extremely accurate), especially if you've never fired one. They're FAR superior to 1911's as far as I'm concerned. Double the magazine capacity, wider grip (double stack magazine -- makes it a lot less frustrating when shooting @ the range), no palm safety, etc. The 75B is offered in .40S&W which is still mildly inferior to .45ACP but is still a one-shot-drop handgun. The 9mm still can't balistically compete with 40 or 45, but if you've got an accurate and reliable handgun, you only need one shot.

Post Re: 1911 pistol
gotta put in my $.2

I have a thread around here somewhere regarding my Taurus PT1911AR. Very nice gun for the money. A bunch of people's reviews (video reviews, etc.) say that it's the very best 1911 you can get for the money.

But, for $1,600, you can get a extremely nice 1911. Like Gman said, Colt and Springfield Armory make excellent 1911s. Para Ordinance and S&W make great 1911s too (a nice thing about Para, they make double-stack models for greater capacity capability). Kimber is even better. A Wilson Combat or a Les Baer Custom 1911 is better still (but probably exceeding $1600).

you should post some picks when you get it. Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_06

My smith & wesson 1911PD with Crimson Trace laser grips. I paid about $1200 for it and it comes from a S&W gunsmith with competition parts all around. S&W 1911's are separated by their Scanduim Aluminum frames, lightweight and durable.

If you spend $1000 or better on a 1911 its gonna be the bees knees. A Baer or Wilson tops most. The double stack para's are good if you have Andre the giant hands. Kimbers are nice and some consider them to be the 1911 standard.

If you buy a Wilson or Baer bring it over and you can shove it into my ass.
