It's another legit avenue for his talents (imagine being this good at detecting and patching bugs -as good as Geno, perhaps- and then putting that effort toward creating extremely well-coded games); the skills aren't avenue-fixed.

Monetarily, he can make more being a network security guru (like his is now), than being a video game bug-fixer.

Unless...AngryKitten's venture into the gaming world turns into the next Blizzard or Bethesda.

It could happen!!! What I do pays well but it's full of ZZZZZZZzzzzz plus I've always wanted to work in the video game industry (I've got lots of cool ideas for games physics, gameplay, story ect).

Tazz dont be fooled theres good money in what I do but the market is pretty shity even big companys like Cisco are hurting big time layoffs and what not, salaries arent what they were 3 or 4 years ago.

If Angry pulls it off (He could hes a smart guy just needs to hunker down and F*CKING do it) it could mean big money and GASP!!?!??!? It could be fun and I can go back to looking forward to going to work in the morning.

Here Tazz this is what someone who is looking for a job doing what i do can expect to make a year, It was ALOT more 4 or 5 years ago.

MCSD - Microsoft Certified Solution Developer

MCP - Microsft Certified Professional

If you have no certs, start with the CompTIA certs mainly A+ doesnt hold as much value as the other certs on my list but they will give you the footing you will need to continue upwards.


Cisco certs are pretty solid i'd start there once you are comfortable with networking. The testing is difficult but nothing you cant pass if you know the material the main reason I like the Cisco certs is because the amount of recognition these certs hold is the top of the pyramid so to speak. The down side to that is they arent as easy to get as some other certs, Cost a shit load of money and consumes most of your time.



If you arent ready to devote all of your time and i do mean all of your time to getting the higher Cisco certs I would go towards the Microsoft certs instead they are a bit more eaiser to get ( not saying its not hard it is ) mainly because of the cost is alot less and the amount of classwork / labs is less they can be mostly done online and on your free time. We all know Microsoft software is EVERYWHERE they have there hands in everything so there is a demand for MSC ANYTHING mostly everywhere.

This maybe the most logical way to start since getting a few of these certs will allow you to get a decent paying job and continue your education maybe even for free depends on who you're working for. Same can go for Cisco certs but like i said they are harder to obtain.

Also, as for that tech salary chart, I look at that and say "Hey, I can work just fine with that."

How does Network + compare in difficulty with CCNA, more over what is some of the content if you can remember (I assume you took it quite a long time ago.

Any opinions/knowledge on CCNA Security?

Net+ is buttkiss basics compared to CCNA.

I think I'll start with Network+ and the Microsoft Certs, then level up to CCNA->CCNP->CCIE if I ever get there. I don't know if A+ will be helpful because I was a tech (hw & sw) for my university for 4 years, and I took a look at some A+ test material and the stuff is extremely basic. Net+ seems like a good pre-intro for CCNA. The problem is that my full time experience is in programming (web) so I'll probably have to start as an intern somewhere to build up some xp if I go the certs route.

Hmph maybe I'll take a network+ for shit and giggles here soon, I've been doing CCNA course work in school for like 3 years or so
