Joe's right though, I'm in the Navy too (Canadian Navy - insert jokes, whatever...) and we do work with gay people and I know some since the 3 years that I've been working in the CF, I didn't know about this law in the US though.

Of course for some, seeing gay people kissing or whatever they do is hard. I don't like watching 2 dude kissing. I hate it. But I'm not gonna say that I don't want to work with someone just because he's gay. The Canadian Navy (and pretty sure the US Navy too) is a real big family. Help each other, they'll help you back. That's one good thing happening in your navy.

I'm sorry, I couldn't resist...

What cracks me up is that it's an American Coast guard sticker on the boat.

I know i'm on the other side of Active Duty now, but I've known a few gays and lesbians while I was in, and I actually have more problem working with Homophobes and Christians that feel the need to get in other peoples faces about religion (not all Christians just the have to convert everybody they talk to types) then I ever had with gays or lesbians, way I see it is one group made a choice about their own lifes, the other group wants to make a choice about other peoples lives. Sorry just had to toss in on this one.

the whole argument and the law itself is just wrong and goes against everything we stand for. to be absolutly honest i diddnt really care in the beginning, but now that the fight has drug on so much the jokes arnt even funny anymore. i can only speak for the army side of the house but we have done poll after poll and much to the dismay of so called moral-fanatics, the army doesnt mind gays serving with them at all.

i just want to know why when people hear the word gay, they think sex-crazy, rapist, and molester? even worse, why to people think that just because someones gay, there attracted to anything thats the same gender as them? way too many people forget that they are not animals (such as they are treated in america now a days) and dont go around humping random legs n butts. just like we have to be attracted to our partner, so do they.

i predict that this is going to turn into one of those martin luther king movements for the gay community. we treat them like second class citizens, we segragate them from the rest of us "normal" people, and we deny them rights to where in our constitution it is stated as being "un alienable".....just like we did with blacks back in our golden years of countryhood.

anyone notice a trend in our country's history that just flat out sucks? we single out a single group thats different for what ever reason and we go against everything we teach in order to opress them. americans have done it to every major ethnic group so far, i guess the next logical step would be to attack lifestyle choices.....we ran out of colors to hate i suppose.

Look around...America or the world for that matter hasn't learned shit from the past. We might say we have, but clearly we haven't. I'd like to say though that at least giving gays this right is a step in progress.

Well spoken Turkey!

Cyning, i'de have to add to that. It might be progress, but this has happened with blacks, women ect. When we allow them rights, it's progress. But as soon as we get to the next group to discriminate against, it just knocks us right back to where we were in the first place. Now we will seem to keep making progress. But only until we find another group to rag on and treat like they don't deserve the same treatment as everyone else. It's just a continuous cycle. History will repeat itself as it always has. We are supposed to learn from our mistakes and move on. But it's just in our nature to go against something just because we don't believe in it. My guess is the next group to center our attention on is obese people. It's been goin on for years, and it never get's better.

You might expect this coming from me but everyone seems to have some Hitler in them. Everyone believes in a perfect race of people, Americans have, and are clearly picking on people one by one. We are denying rights to people who are not "pure" and treating them like "inferior people" similar to Nazi Germany with Jews and Commies

haha :D

I think most problem with sexuality in the armed forces is the men harassing the women and getting away with it. If a gay sailor accosts another man who's not, what do you think would happen?

Anyway we have to make our policies such that we trust our servicemembers to be professional, as 99.9% of them are. Having a blanket policy such as "you can't be yourself even if you do a great F*CKING job" is horrid, and I'm glad this one's gone.

Stupid law, stupid republicans, stupid homophobes.

Why is it that "some people" (closet cases) think gays and lesbians can't keep it in their pants. Project much?

Is it such a surprise that soldiers, airmen and marines care more about serving with someone who is competent than who that person fucks.

So...Scenario: You meet someone, they say, "Oh, by the way, I'm gay." Man - Woman, doesn't matter. What's the first thing that comes to your mind about them?

Once again, just seeking answers here, not being a judge. This question is for everyone, not just Vauk.
