Post Need Game Suggestion
So I really like Empire: Total War, but it makes my system bluescreen pretty regularly (like after 30 minutes of playtime). I've already updated all of my drivers, reinstalled the OS/game, but it just doesn't like my system for some reason...

I want a game that I can play that's sorta turn-based like Total War's campaign mode so I can work for a while, play for a while, and work for a while etc. Something that I can look away from for a few minutes/hours at a time and pick up right where I left off -- not constant action like CSS.

I'd prefer some sort of historical strategy game, not an RTS or something sci-fi.

I've neard about Age of Empires and stuff like that... just never played any of them. Can someone who has played Total War's campaign mode think of something else that's similar that doesn't run on the Empire: Total War engine (maybe something older like Rome: Total War? Does it have campaign mode?)

Thanks ♥

im not sure if it was you, but i think you mentioned u were using the same video card as me. which kept causing me to blue screen as well. to the point where i couldn't even play cs.

i have played a total war game. but that was YEARS ago. Shogun: Total War. I liked it a lot too. Try that out if you don't mind playing something ancient.

but yea. hopefully ur video card doesn't shit out on you.

Have you ever tried any of the Civilization games?

Age of Empires is good too, but it's over so quick that you're pissed when it is. Then it doesn't have real good replayability and stuff....blah blah blah phone call.

Rome Total War certainly has a campaign. I started playing it a few years back and never got into it too much and forgot all about it. Now I want to start playing it again. I like Medieval Total War better though. Give them both a try.

Age of Empires is more like a pseudo-historical RTS but AOE 2 has a very solid historical campaign. Nothing like Total War though.

I can send you my Rome : Total war box. It's got Rome : Total war and the mod Rome : Barbarian Invasion (which imo is harder, and better). It's a really good game, campain is interesting, combats are really intense too, depending on how intense you are in this game.

As for the replayability, you can only play as a Rome faction at first, but everytime you defeat one faction, you can start a new game with this particular faction, which is Really interesting cuz you start a game a different location on the map.

I could give it to you if you just pay the shipping shit, but I don't know which one would be cheaper, at a game store or by shipping it...

Currently downloading and installing Civ 4.

No thanks LeCoq -- I'll probably buy it eventually. It's only like $10 on steam. Thanks though.

Civ V sounds like your winner. It's great for when you want to turn the brain off for a few hours.

Europa Unversalis 3+Heir to the throne+ the recent expansion Divine wind. Its very small and cheap. Its a lot of fun and takes place between 1399-1829. Its EVERY DAY of those years so games can be very long if you want. Time can be sped up for years when nothing happens except trade and your cash flow. This is a game I play in the background and let run for a while on its own. You can pick almost any Empire back in those days. Anyone in the holy roman empire at the time all the way to the aztecs and mayans before the Euros even reach the americas. I really like this game and enjoy playing it all the time. It takes alot of management between religion, trade, military and political aspects.

This video explains alot

Empire Earth III, it's okay and I think you can get it for cheap, it does the same turn-based/real time combo that Total War does but it's a bit more like of a Age of Empires thing.

Personally I'll go with Coach and say Civ, it's total turn based but it's great, if you live Civ IV and want to go a bit serious I'd graduate to Civ V, a lot more harder (no more stacking units and a change of shape for the spots.)

Try game from the Close Combat series (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Close_Combat_series). This is RTS, but it's slow phased. And usually after you set initial orders during the pre-battle setup you're good for 5-20 minutes (depending on the battle area) or you can just pause the game and forget.

Here're some resources to get you familiar with the game: http://www.closecombatseries.net/CCS/. Go ahead and get the demo of Close Combat 5: Invasion Normandy from download section (I installed it yesterday without any problem on win7 x64).

Some (IMO) features:
- it's tactical (battle to battle) game
- you manage up to 15 units per battle
- based on historical data: available unit types, weapons, terrain, everything (I believe that even some of the soldiers names) ...
- units / soldiers can run out of ammo (you may hear sometime reports like 'conserving ammunition')
- morale is calculated on the soldier level - from same unit one soldier can panic and run away from the field, when other can go frenzy / heroic
- soldiers get tired - forcing attack in firs few minutes will result later on in 'turtle speed'
- soldier statuses are not only dead / alive, it's : OK / hurt / wounded / unconscious / dead / surrender / panicked
- actions are not only move / attack / guard it's: sneak / move / move fast / defend / setup smoke cover / ambush / fire
- and this game sometimes can get really, really hard: try to win as Allies having one bazooka team when you're facing 2-3 Germans' Tigers (or Panthers...)

And yes - I'm really gay for this game Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_11

Other strategic games I'm gay for are:
- Warhammer: Shadow of the Horned Rat - 2 months ago I setup virtual machine with Win95 to play it Yellow_Flash_Colorz_PDT_10
- Warhammer: Dark Omen - have ready Win98 for VM setup
- Caesar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caesar_(video_game)) - you may want to try Caesar IV. If it's half as good the first one it's still much better that the crap they produce this days.

I think he's looking more for turn based games, not RTS. Know what I mean bro?
