Not to mention while even though the server for the time was a US server, Gary Fung is a Canadian National.

Not to mention while even though the server for the time was a US server, Gary Fung is a Canadian National. They are fight with the Canadian version of the MPAA has nothing to do with US law or US policy. It just so happens that the two groups have a common goal. Now, if the US implements this new law and Canada disagrees with it, you'll be safe as long as you are a Canadian citizen and the servers you are using are based in Canada. If you have a presence in the USA, it doesn't matter what nationality you are. You can't do something illegal in the USA then claim you're a Canadian citizen and get away with it.

You know where all the new servers will go? The Middle East cause they don't give a F*CK about the US or any multinational company crying foul.

The first amendment in no way implies that freedom of speech means that you should be able to pirate copyrighted works at will. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Freedom in the context of that law means that you can say or print anything you want. It does not refer to the price of something. The problem here is that people seem to think that just because a product can be digitized and transmitted over a wire that it should be free. Unfortunately those of us that make our livelihoods creating things people value kind of need to get paid for our work. As soon as I can walk into a car dealer and drive off in a shiny new Mercedes, live in my house without paying a mortgage, and go load up my groceries at the store without having to pay a dime I will be more than happy to work for free...until then I prefer to be paid. Video games, copyrighted media, commercial software, or whatever the product happens to be...if you are using it without paying for it then you are stealing something from someone who worked very hard to produce it. I am all for not censoring the Internet, but shutting down sites that facilitate illegal downloads is not censorship. That is the same thing as busting a crack house or raiding a chop shop.

Agreed, but leave it up to the states, not the F*CKING CIA. Maybe the one good thing out of this would be that it'd open up the market to sites that legitimately use the .torrent file/p2p system so I can download videos or tutorials or whatever made by regular people who want a better distribution system.

Too bad Obama's best friends with all the guys who were responsible for the economic meltdown (Goldman Sachs higher-ups, etc.)
Don't get me wrong, I've actually been in the guy's presence. He exudes rock star, he's very personable, intelligent and has good ideas, but he's still friends with the scheisters who ruffle my feathers and he doesn't mind helping a (financial industry) brother out.

The problem with the law isn't that it is blocking sites hosting torrents and whatnot, but rather it's with how it happens. You cannot use the first amendment to shield criminal speech, that we can all agree on. However, no one besides a judge should be able to determine what is criminal and what is not. This law allows the goverment to declare something as criminal speech when in fact, it may not be. For that reason, it should be declared unconstitutional.

Haven't we had a few presidents like that? taking a laissez-faire approach? Like Hoover, who is looked as one of the worse presidents, since he didn't do much to stop the depression, and Buchanan, who let the southern states walk out, causing civil war.

Re: Must read if you torrent anything at all
I think all of our "representatives" deserve to be baseball batted to death.
It's like we have a bunch of two year olds in power. "I don't completely understand this. Shut it down." Every time I read something about legislation I just get angry at how illogical it is.
Besides, they're F*CKING with the wrong crowd. They don't fully comprehend how reliant they are on the people that this proposition will affect. Those government nerds that torrent Avatar are the same ones that made your entire power grid easily accessible from one computer. Everything is connected to the internet now, which means there is a backdoor into any system, power grids and security grids are some of the major examples. You piss off the wrong website and you could be looking at acts of terrorism, executed via the internet. On top of that people will be less willing to provide information/services to a government that can, in a sense, 'witch hunt' and deem anything they want illegal.
The fags in power are digging themselves into a hole. Eventually the dormant majority in the middle will get so tired of this shit that they'll rise up and tell the extremists that are always the most vocal to shut the F*CK up when the big kids are talking, can't wait for it to happen.

The power grids are self-contained and connected to intranets not internets.

Kwang! wrote: The power grids are self-contained and connected to intranets not internets. All it takes is one sysadmin to "accidentally" connect the intranet to the internet and you're fucked. Also look at the stuxnet worm, that F*CKER is designed to infect machines that have no business being on the internet and it worked quite well. Also, you can hack into the secured intranet by hacking some of the smart power meters that companies have been installing. http://www.nctimes.com/business/article ... 681bf.htmlNo one fucks with the power grid because there's no gain in it. If you bring down the grid, YOU don't have electricity either and you've just made yourself a target for all the nerds who like their electricity.
