May we all take a minute to remember...
9 years ago, today, I was coming home from my first deployment, onboard the USS Constellation -- my dad was onboard also, for what's known as Tiger Cruise, where family members can come on and travel with you on the last week of your deployment -- we just pulled out of Pearl Harbor two days before, three days away from pulling in to our homeport of San Diego. I was sleeping, about an hour away from waking up and starting another day of work. I thought I was dreaming, because I heard two people talking outside of my rack, talking about how jets flew into the World Trade Center in NY -- I thought I HAD to be dreaming...there was no way something like this would be happening. Well, an hour or so later, I woke up and started my morning routine -- shitting, showering and shaving -- and went up to my shop. When I got up to my shop, I was thinking too myself, "wow...there's way too many people sitting in the shop for being a day when we're flying." I get in there, see everyone staring at the TV onboard...it was tuned into CNN, and on the TV, I see all the coverage about jets flying into the Trade Centers, then going down and I was in complete shock, so was everyone else in the shop...I thought I was watching a movie or something! We sat there all day (they cancelled our flight schedule for that day and shut all maintenance down), watching in disbelief. There's my story about today, 11 September 2001. What's yours? Where were you? Let's everyone please take a minute today and pray for everyone who died on this horrible day.

Re: May we all take a minute to remember...
I still lived in Cincinnati and my wife and I were on vacation to where I currently live now. There wasn't a television at the cabin we were staying at so I'd listen to the news on the radio in the morning. I had just put on a pot of coffee and flipped on the radio to hear the words "The pentagon was just attacked". I had no idea what was going on so I ran in and woke up my wife, I thought we might be at war.
It took us a few minutes to gather what had happened from the news. It was a week before I was able to see the footage on the T.V.
One of those days you never forget.

Re: May we all take a minute to remember...
I was in grade 5 I believe and I remember my principal running in and telling my teacher that a plane had flown into the WTC. I was probably too young at the time to grasp the seriousness of the incident but I do remember being somewhat scared. They sent us home and I watched CNN all day with my Dad.

My gf called me and woke me up and told me to turn on the tv. I couldn't believe that we were under attack until I saw the 2nd plane hit. I stayed glued to the tv for over a week contemplating whether I should join the military.

Re: May we all take a minute to remember...
I was 19 and in a bad spot, the news didn't affect me like it did others, probably because I'm one of the few who automatically disagreed with the official story and I'm sorry if that offends anyone. I disagree with the conventional ideas surrounding this event but I still mourn for those who died because most of them were probably good people and all of them had families. I don't believe the military ought to be doing what it's doing in the places it is, but I support our troops because most, if not all people in the military love this country and many are just following orders (and like Vision I tried to join the military a month after the attacks, but my Deafness kept me out). The best way to prevent something like this from happening is to find a way of gutting our socio-economic and political landscape of bad apples. People need to be more pro-active in their country, and make sure that they're supporting the agenda set by our founding fathers and not that of the global elite. I'll probably be flamed for this, but this is what I believe.

I was a sophomore in High School, sitting in Chemistry class. Next thing I know they flip the television on, and there's a burning building. I couldn't grasp exactly what was happening at the time, but it sank in pretty quickly afterwards when I saw footage of people leaping to their deaths...

Re: May we all take a minute to remember...
I was at home eating breakfast about to go to work when I saw the second tower get hit live. After I got to work I spent a good part of the day trying to get hold of a friend of mine who worked in Tower 1. He was lucky, him and his boss went outside to what the commotion was and saw the second tower get hit from ground level. My buddy said he actually saw what looked like an engine slam down into the street and slide across the intersection just a little ways away. His boss called up to the office and told everyone to get out and ignore security telling everyone to stay put for there safety. When you watch the footage of the people running from the dust cloud you might see my buddy in that crowd, he's the 6'4" Korean guy.

Re: May we all take a minute to remember...
I was having lunch at Burger King in Lebanon, back in I believe as a freshman in high school. Having only been in the country from age 0 till 9, I didn't even know what the WTC was. A friend called me to tell me that plane had flown into the WTC, I honestly didn't even think it was a skyscraper at that point, maybe something more like a series of short buildings. I look at the TV at BK just to see the second plane hit, and thats when I realized that some serious shit was going down. I ran home and flipped to CNN and began educating myself, the more I realized what is happening, the more I realized that at that exact moment, everything was about to change. That was the day that I stopped thinking like a kid and started looking to the future, and worrying.
My heart goes out to all who lost anyone, friend or family, and all the victims of such a heinous act.

Re: May we all take a minute to remember...
Wow, I just got home from workin. I didn't even know today was September 11th.
9 years ago today, I was 14 years old. When the first plane hit I was sleeping. My mom ran into my room and woke me up and rushed me into their bedroom to show me what was on TV. About 10 seconds later the second plane hit. At 14 I didn't know what the WTC were, or even where they were. I remember thinking "Who cares, it's just some buildings!" But I kept watching because I thought it was interesting. When I got to school and in ever class we did nothing but watch what was going on, and kept seeing updates of new planes hitting other important places, I started to grasp a little of what was happening. But still didn't really care for a little over a month. A month after the attack my step dad, my mom and I took a trip to New York City we had been waiting for for months. That's when it really hit me. That's when I fully understood how important and dramatic that day was. Seeing people still very emotional about the situation, and talking to my step dads cousin who was in the first tower that day. It really opened my eyes. At that age, watching a grown man break down and express how he felt about a lot of his great friends dieing in the attack, really brought a tear to my eye. Going to Ground Zero, and seeing all the flowers, signs and memorials makes you hurt inside. When I looked at it for the first time, I didn't know what to think, how to feel, or what to even say. But just stare. I can't even imagine what the people of all the affected places felt that day.
My prayers go out to all the victims and their families. Just thinking about that day makes my mind cluttered with mixed emotions. It's like flashbacks of that day and the trip to NYC. Like Shorty already said. "One of those days you never forget."

English teacher cuts the TV on when she heard about it and it shocked the hell out of me and the whole class. It was a disaster.

Re: May we all take a minute to remember...
I was in 6th grade math class when one of the vice principals stuck her head in the door and said "a plane flew into the world trade center" She left and a few seconds later she came back and said "another plane just hit the world trade center" Everyone in the class was just shocked as the teachers tried to keep the class on another subject. My mom came and took me home from school that day...

Re: May we all take a minute to remember...
I was in 7th grade science class in middle school when I heard the principal come over the intercom and say "I'm sure that you all are aware by now of the bombing at the World Trade Center in New York. Teachers, please allow any students with concerns please use the phone in the front office. Thanks." We all looked at each other with confusion, because none of us had any clue as to what the principal was referring to. My bitch of a science teacher didn't even let us watch the tv, she just continued with her boring-ass lesson. It took going home (at the normal time: 3 PM) and actually seeing the event on the news to truly drive the point home. My parents were glued to the tv when I got home, they filled me in and told me that we didn't have any relatives in the towers or in the city that day (my whole entire family resides in Jersey). I never thought we were at war or under a large scale attack, but I didn't know if another terrorist attack somewhere else in the U.S. was imminent. It was a very uncertain time for all of us.

Re: May we all take a minute to remember...
I was a final year degree student in India, and had just quit school (because I would be immigrating to the U.S in a few months). I watching a movie on the TV when they switched to the emergency broadcast system to show it happen. In the beginning, I didn't understand what was happening and didn't pay much attention because I wanted to watch the movie. Then my uncle yelled in a shocked voice that the World Trade Center was going down. It was unbelievable for all of us. In India, terrorist attacks happen on a daily basis (mostly up North, in Kashmir) but the fact that they went after the U.S was hard to believe for me.

My teachers were told to not say a word to anyone, typical of catholic schools, ignorance is bliss i guess. Well when i get back home i still dont get what went on till i actually see it. then the power goes out and me and my friends believed a war just started in the US and we lost power because of it. Ever since then my life changed a shit ton lol noone had ever been so racist to me because of my ethnicity till after that tragedy.
