shit, $2000 for a t.v.? Not my style, but I hope you enjoy the hell out of that monster. The PS3 is great if you get MW2, MAG and Uncharted2, among some other games.

That's a waste of money. You can get a 46" Samsung LED for the same price.

Edit: (I sell TVs, mo'fugga. Listen to the words coming out of my mouth.)

So I'll hop on the anti-plasma bandwagon, but I'll one-up everyone else by telling you why you shouldn't get one: plasma TVs put out a lot of heat and aren't very energy efficient.

I'm not sure if this is correct at all, but in my mind: heat = electrical resistance = increased strain on electrical components = premature failure (over a newer technology). That's just my opinion, though, and not founded on any real evidence. Grain o' salt that shit, but I'd think about it.

G your right they put out a lot of heat that is why they dont last every long becuase they cant solve the over heating problem with plasmas

Dude, if you're in the higher-end market in both technology AND size, then plasma MIGHT be the way to go. I actually found a helpful guy at a magnolia showroon that spent F*CKING 1.5 hours with me explaining on the phyiscal/electrical level the differences between the two, and why go with one of over the other in some cases, and opposite. I even told him I dont even want to buy anything nor have the money, and he understood and didnt even try selling me, he was just crazy itchin to tell someone that stuff i guess :P

Gman, from what I remember, I think I heard him say plasma's will go for 10 years+ (I could be COMPLETELY mistaken though), and at higher/bigger sizes, plasma's rape in terms of true black, color, and crazy sexy contrast ratio (don't bother reading contrast ratio numbers tho, you'd need to see it yourself since each companies makes up their own way of measuring). However, I'm talking about the 55"+ market.

All in all, do some research, don't exclude plasmas, and check out a decent higher end showroom where the guys know what they're talking about (except for priest, lol jk :P)

Here's a quick first link, although grain o salt since its a pro-plasma website: http://www.plasmatvbuyingguide.com/plas ... espan.html

not to mention that plasma tv's are WAY heavy too. so good luck moving and installing that shit. and Gman is right, not that energy efficient. new plasmas will last longer than the old plasmas that earned the bad rep, but they still have a worse track record that LCD. LED is too new to know all their long-term problems.

I used to work for an automotive switch and sensor company who played the quantity game: if we can save 2 cents by downgrading this part from industrial to commercial grade, that is a bazillion dollars over 45 years (because of the huge quantities they produced).

I would expect the same to be true for commercial electronics manufacturers, going through part selection with an eye towards cost rather than the robustness or reliability of their product -- and things have probably gotten even worse since the economy has been hit.

Anyway, ya, I agree with Gman.

I bought a 42" tv two years ago, so I am sure things have changed, but heres why I bought a plasma...

It was for my bedroom, so not a lot of light, so plasma is ok, but it can be hard to see in a room with to much light ie a living room depending on windows...

I wanted it for gaming and blu-ray movies, and at the time it cost about 30-40% more for a comperable LCD that could keep up with the plasma in terms of refresh rates so you wouldnt have the assy ghosting effects.

That being said, we also have a 42" LCD at my house, both are samsung, the lcd was 40% more, and the really is no noticeable difference in picture. One thing though that I do hate about Plasma is that its heavy as F*CK, my tv weighs 82 pounds, and is a beast to move, and plasmas can never lay flat or at an extreme angle, they must always be kept standing up, which means they are a bitch to move.

Well the plasma I like is only 1.3 Kilograms heavier then the comparable LCD so thats not alot, it's less then 5 pounds. It's going into a dark basement with no light so plasma would be better then LCD and the plasma is cheaper then any same size LCD. So far the plasma is winning the decision. I just can't wait to plug in the PS3 I will buying with it. I will also be putting a new grill and tinting the windows on my gangsta car if the bonous turns out as good as the boss has indicated. I'll post pics of the car when it gets done.
