Question for whoever has used a Language program.
So ive been thinking of teaching myself a new language on the side for fun. Ive wanted to learn german and russian for as long as I can remember so I was wondering If anyone has used a language program like Rosetta stone before? If so what program, how was it etc etc. Of course I can get these programs easily (♥ Pbay) so any suggestions would be awesome. If im asking this in the wrong forum i apologize, ive got a raging F*CKIN headache and ive been sick as F*CK for the last 4 hours and wanted to ask this before i pass out.

Yes I have used Rosetta Stone, and that's what the language dept. at my college uses. It's pretty much the best language learning software that I've seen.

I have rosetta stone I got from pbay. I used it but didnt seem to think it was actually teaching me. Maybe the verison I got was whacked but it was dumb, I was more bored than interested in the learning the language.

no matter what language program you use, unless you do some quality offline practice with others who speak it, its going to be hard. rosetta stone is what the army uses and it does work. just gotta get out there and find a use for it else your gonna forget everything within 2 weeks.

Re: Question for whoever has used a Language program.
to be honest, it doesn't matter what program you use to learn a language becuase each program usually stops at the same point in each, and 95% of any language you learn is culture bound and won't make nearly enough sense at the starting basis of learning.
I haven't used a program yet since i learned all 3 of my languages in school (english obviously, french, spanish) what I can tell you though is IMO it'd be best to start with german if you're just delving into a secondary langauge. ITs the easiest of the two for any english speaker to learn since german and english are in teh same language group and have the same sentence structure (Subject, Verb, Object) and relatively similar phonetics so laerning the accents and correct vocal patterns won't be as hard.
IF you wish to delve into russian though prepare for a sidewards chuck norris kick to the face. you'll spend the first 2+ weeks learning the alphabet alone, as its Cryllic not Roman and learning it comes in three stages, first Visual recognition, second sound translation and third writing translation. I started teaching myself russian already havne't gotten back ot it as of late though but I can help you speed along the process if you want. Go with rosetta stone if its easier to access and hit me up if you need any help wiht either language, i haven't learneds nearly enough german but Ive learned enough languages and enough about language to be able to pretty much tackle anything
