 Installing new cpu
All I will have to do is pull the old one out and put the new one in correct? Are will it require more?

 Re: Installing new cpu
Generally no, just make sure to clean off and add new thermal compound and plug the fan in :-)
Never had to do this, but if it doesn't start up and the only thing you did was swap the CPU you should reset the CMOS (either with the jumper or by pulling the CMOS battery (if its removable) for a few minutes.

 Re: Installing new cpu
are you 100% sure your new cpu is 100% compatible with your mother board? it can be the same socket type, but an earlier mobo paired with a newer cpu, same socket and all, might not necessarily match well, especially if you're going from a dual core to a quad, for example. Just a thought.

 Re: Installing new cpu
The cpu is not posted on the asus site of supported cpus for the mb, but it meets all the requirements of my mb, and after reading this I feel that there should be no prob with my mb handling this. http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx?id= ... uage=en-usthis is my new cpu Intel Core 2 Duo E7600 Wolfdale 3.06GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

 Re: Installing new cpu
hmmm...
perhaps, check the bios settings and make sure this new bios you just flashed didn't default to some funky or otherwise undesirable settings...
did you make sure you cleared the cmos after you flashed the bios?

 Re: Installing new cpu
no I didnt do that, I have pc wizard open right now and it shows my cpu voltage at 1.049V when in bios it is set to 1.4v, and set to stop running if it gets down to 1.25v. I could try to reset the cmos and see if that does it

 Re: Installing new cpu
what cpu and board give me as info as you can....

 Re: Installing new cpu
If you were using a single core before, and upgraded to a dual core, you might need to reinstall the correct HAL (hardware abstraction layer), which has to be done from the Windows Installation application (booting from the Windows CD). Not sure if you need to do that or not, but it's something you could try.

 Re: Installing new cpu
found this while googling. Could this maybe be it? My c1e is set to auto in bios
I would imagine it's because the PC is trying to go into a sleep state and you've disabled speedstep/C1E in the BIOS?
For example, if I mistakenly press 'sleep' in Vista, my PC restarts as it cannot sleep.
Worth a punt

 Re: Installing new cpu
well after looking through my event logs there were a bunch of warning and a few critical errors. This was only happening when my comp was not being used and just idling. After booting from win7 disc and doing a repair it told me to remove and external devices and restart and see if prob persist. SO I unhooked my external hdd, went into bios boot options and for some reason the first boot option was removable, changed to hard disk and there are now no critical errors in the log.
Just some warnings, I dont think this is anything major just trying to get me to change display setting to get better performance I believe. We shall see, I dont think this has anything to do with my cpu at all lawls. Gonna let the comp idle for a bit and see if it happens again
