As I look at it now, this game is no different than ether other open sandbox rpg influenced shooters, it just has vehicles and a more comic approach.

Open Sand box???, rpg influenced shooters???, LOL, for this comment alone, i already know that you havent buyed the game yet nor made a decent research about it, i aint saying that you should abstain from posting this comments, im just saying that if you want to sound like you "know" at least make a decent effort.

Kthxbye.

I've never played a game like this. They take the scavenging / loot-and-level-to-keep-you-interested approach that was in Diablo and WoW, pair it with amazing art & effects, an interesting story/world, and made a very, very good FPS. The only thing I have issues with are the jumping-- seems too floaty-like, not gravity-based like quake & cs.

Computer AI is just fine. Bad guys duck & weave, rush, snipe, etc. Gear is properly balanced as well. So the game never feels easy.

When I hear the "you're in an encounter" music start up, I still get goosebumps and breathe a little faster.

I have yet to try a co-op mode though, so my comments are on single-player only.

Hey man I'm just saying if I get bored just looking at the game for more than a minute it can't be as mind blowing as it's been put out there, its just as bad as a squeal of a squeal. The only new things I've really seen the game put forth is the co-op which is impressive but as for single person I've seen more walking around than actual fighting

Someones got to put a dent in the worshiping that you and dieus do ♥.

this isn't the first game that's infused RPG elements such as levels and shit into a shooter and drop people in an open ended world, what sets this game apart really? comic book graphics?

So I'm at 76% on my download from Piratebay. Think I can put it on steam and play with you guys or is that a bad idea?

Fallout 3, S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Bioshock, Mass Effect, Deus Ex, and so on and so on, just wiki Role Playing shooters and they give you a handful of games if you'd google you'd get more, Some have aspects of rpgs wither it'd be anything from level aspects, inventory aspects, special abilties and so on and so on.

my main question is what sets Borderlands from the rest to make it actually worth the money besides having 40 hours of gameplay? What makes it so great enough to be given such praise as it's had in this forum.

The only other one I'm familiar with that does this is Killzone2 for PS3 (I'm talking 'bout multiplayer only, haven't touched SP). It's not done extremely well, and is very rigid as far as what you get, when. Not even close to Borderlands.

Killzone 2 is a straight shot shooter, I can't even recall any RPG elements whatsoever in that game. It's done great really, sales are alright, its short though is really my only downside to that game. The story line is solid and it leaves you hanging quite a bit at the end, I did well enough to understand the game without having experience with the first one for ps2

Man its cool, i know you think its a sequel of a sequel, i mean you havent buyed or played the game so its cool.

Fallout 3 is an RPG, third person/first person action shooter and its based on an open sand box environment.

Bioshock is not an RPG, its a straight first person shooter and its not based on an open sand box environment.

Mass effect is an action RPG, third person shooter.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R i havent had the chance of playing it but a friend of mine says that it has a tinge of RPG and that i should give it a try.

So ill give you half a nice try in this case.

Borderlands is an action adventure RPG that is not in an open sand box, and there are 3 things that differ from the games you mentioned, it has ranzomized loot, its cell shaded and its co-op, the 4 games you mentioned before dont have this elements that are a great adittion to the mixed genre, i havent played STALKER so im assuming its not CO-OP.

Yeah every game is another sequel of every game that is another sequel of every game, a shooter is a shooter etc.

When i played fallout 3, i wasnt thinking about oblivion with guns, not at all, it was a whole different set and feeling of the game, personally if you think that Fallout 3 is oblivion with guns youre F*CKING stupid, period.

I dont want to keep writing because it would take me a lot of time and you know how it goes on arguing over the internetz, fortunately for me, there are other 4 peopple that actually liked the game and can back me up when i say that this game its not like "TEH MOST EPIC OF WINS"but its god damn good, fun and a must have, period.

Being able to do that isn't any where close to anything FPS minded; hence an RPG element.

I'm referring to the Multiplayer which gives XP based on objectives & kills, unlocks weapons & abilities based on level. It's slightly RPG, but it's so stiff it's not actually a huge benefit to the game overall. Sure, some people who play more can fly before others, or use the rocket launcher. Whoop dee doo. Everyone gets the same options in the end, so it's nowhere near Borderlands or WoW calibre.

Also, the WALL-E inspired 1-wheeled robot is about as funny as Jar Jar Binks. They should put in a patch to turn it into a hot naked robot chick or something.

Looks like the multiplayer part involves running a server on that player's machine. So if someone has shitty upload, closed ports, etc. it's horrid.

So far I've only found 1 playable game out of a dozen or so tries.

LOL man you fail, please stop, just stop "srsly", just because the game implements a tinge of rpg it doesnt mean its "fully" RPG.

The way you toss lightning and stuff like that was done by the mage class in Hexen, so its not a big deal.

Youre just bitching on how we like the game and you dont because it doesnt implement a new feature for your eyes to behold...but guess what it doesnt matter AGAIN and you know why i will put an example of this, Fallout 3 implemented the V.A.T.S. wich is a pretty original feature to me, all the characters i make are based on AP to enhance my combat in V.A.T.S, but guess what....there are people that have character build that dont involve V.A.T.S. at ALL and they still enjoy the game, see where im getting here, it really depends on if you are fan of the genre or not.
