Fantasy Football Basic's!
Fantasy Football 101
Fantasy football is actually very easy, it's basically picking a group of active players in the NFL. We call this the roster. Now every league admin sets up how they like the roster, so depending on who's league you join it might be different but the basic roster below is pretty much the same in all leagues.
QB = 1 RB = 2 WR = 2 TE = 1 K = 1 DEF = 1
Bench = 4 to 6
The only slight differences will usually be in the amount of RB's and WR's ranging from 2 to 4.
Your objective is to fill your roster with active players from the league in the hopes to build the team that accumulates the most points week to week throughout the season. Good players will research players and teams before hand and adjust there wish lists before the draft.
The point system is basic, depending position the points will be accumulated based on performance during the game. WR's, RB's and TE's get points based on yardage and TD's. Kickers by successful kicks and distance of kicks. And DEF by turnovers and how much points the opposing team scores (ie. The more points the opposition gets the less points your DEF gets). QB's are the most complicated with points coming from yardage both pass and run, TD's thrown and TD's they score themselves. They get penalized for turnovers like interceptions and QB fumbles.
Draft day is selected by the admin once the league is filled! The day and time will be posted inside the league for all to see so make sure you make time for the draft. Drafts usually take an hour to do depending on slow your competitors are at reading (lol). You do not need to have a separate list of the entire NFL Roster. The players will be listed in the draft window by performance ranking based on last season's performance. This is where research helps since some players might be under ranked due to injury or poor team performance. Pay attention during the draft when selecting your bench players to bye week! The bench players fill in for your stars when they are injured or on bye week, so there is no point in picking two QB's on the same bye. The players you draft are yours for the season unless you trade or drop for players not picked in the draft. Also for any reason you can't make the draft you can setup a pre-draft ranking. That is a wish list you make prior tot he draft of the players you want in the order of importance. When your turn to draft a player comes up the computer will select an available player from your list. If you have spots left to fill and your list has been all selected by other players the computer will then go by performance ranking and it's a crap shoot as to who you get. Live draft is always better then auto-draft!
Every week during the season your team will go head to head against another player in the league so make sure to check your roster regularly for injuries and hot streaks and adjust accordingly.
Joining a league is easy, just get your email to the admin who's running the league. Sandy does an ESPN league while Hito and ToKen do Yahoo.

I am a football nut but have never played fantasy football. I am actually rather afraid of what it would do to me. I mean I may literally have a problem if I start something like that.
