The steambox is the piston. They are not developing two separate systems.

 Re: Piston is coming.
Seems like all just a marketing gimmick to make money, of course.
Can't blame them for trying, but I think we need to stick to PC because it seems like PC gaming is already losing popularity as it is. I'd rather have a PC that can do everything I want, including games, than conform to some new thing they're trying to get us to buy. Not everyone knows how/wants to build computers like many of us though, maybe it would be more appealing to those less savvy and knowledgeable types, who have money to waste.

 Re: Piston is coming.
Go look at the Xi3 architecture. It's actually a pretty damn cool box, just take the 'Piston' aspect out of it.

 Re: Piston is coming.
I don't see anywhere showin me it isn't, but I see a lot of articles saying it is. I see one saying he clarified it wasn't but the article doesn't even talk about it at all. It's just a copy-pasted interview. I know valve is working with multiple companies to create different hardware, but the fact is that they are the same thing being developed by a different partnership.

http://mobile.theverge.com/2013/1/8/385 ... -of-gamingPersonally i'm confused but i don't care. I think piston is what the steambox is aiming to be but not necessarily the tagged steambox. I also feel the gabe doesn't give shits on hardware but is aiming for linux, controllers, and moving away from the desk.

He isn't aiming just for linux. He states in the article that you can install any OS. The OS isn't the big deal really.

If you move it to your office, it's an overpriced small form factor shit. As for changing future hardware standards, i'll be over yonder with the massive pile of skeptics.

 Re: Piston is coming.
small form factor shit? I can immediately come up with at least 5 good uses for one of these.
I don't think $1000 is overpriced for something I take with me anywhere I go and play games as long as there's a TV around to hook into. With the hardware that's running this thing, I wouldn't call it shit, either. Build any computer like that for less than $1000 that you can take around with you.
Consider it as a console/pc that can do anything a console/pc can do, maybe besides burning blu-rays (and even that might come included?). I don't see anything wrong with that at all.

 Re: Piston is coming.
Anytime you try to build a small form factor Pc Its difficult because almost every case has different specs for cooling and support for Different things. This was just a mess around build to see whats possible in an Htpc case, I could've gotten a smaller case but that would sacrifice performance Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811163179 (one of the bigger cases for Htpc) Psu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817171067 (I have looked at the numbers this Psu should fit) Also the modular is nice to prevent unwanted cables for better airflow Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813121506Cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819116505Ram: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820220557GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814125419SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820167121HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136533DvD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827135204Cost is right at the $1.000 mark.

 Re: Piston is coming.
Hey look it's Gabe's Steambox proto he had Slap a sticker on it, put in in a cool bag, boom. But hey if they can make some modular upgradable system Piston size that's actually affordable. Cool, but I'm swimming in the skeptic pool. Or F*CK go mini-itx http://www.gamespot.com/features/downsi ... c-6401645/

Great!
No warranty, no mouse, no keyboard, no OS.
In addition, when the shit breaks you are responsible for it. So what's the better option here.

Also who says the Steambox ship with a keyboard and mouse, I wouldn't be surprised if it actually came with a controller.? If we're going for a steambox clone than by golly we better use Linux Also if you want to purchase a proprietary device for an overall system warranty and for "ease" than be my F*CKING guest. I'll sleep fine with my piece by piece warranty and my own personal skill to fix "breaks".

 Re: Piston is coming.
Just my 2 cents, Not saying the Piston is completely useless, But if i needed to game on the Go i would simply buy a Gaming Laptop or ultrabook. Its a nice idea but i see it being more of a low power using Pc that businesses will use.
It all really depends on if size is the most important factor, However if you can go bigger I always suggest doing so for future needs.
