Post Re: Steam Linux
I seriously don't think you understand what the F*CK I'm saying, so I'll drop it into layman's terms.

Microsoft released a shitty GUi for a decent OS. The end.

It has nothing to do with me hating MS or anything (which I don't). I LOVE MS, actually... a lot! Part of my frustrations are due to the fact that I DON'T want to change OS's... how hard is that to understand?

Why the F*CK do you have to think that just because someone has an opinion on something being bad, it's auto-fuckin-magically a goddamned conspiracy? I think you read into this thread way too F*CKING hard or something.

There's an easy fix for this: MS gives a little checkbox that disables Metro GUi on startup. But instead, they've forced their users to adapt a new GUI that isn't even F*CKING built for a PC. It's like a retarded port of Resident Evil to PC that has no controls whatsoever. I'm ALL FOR them trying new things, but nothing good came out of this OS for PC consumers, not a thing. Name one thing new in Windows 8 that Windows 7 doesn't have or cannot do.

All I'm saying is that I hoped that this new OS would bring new technologies to Windows, a change that would really knock the socks off the competitors, but they didn't. Instead, they copy-catted iOS's interface, and said "Here ya go, our "new" Windows OS!" When have we seen new apps included in Windows OS? Why do we still have the same shitty calculator, the same shitty Minesweeper, and the same F*CKING Solitaire app for 10 years?

If Macroblows really wanted to compete with iOS and Android, they'd understand that people are buying the shit because of cloud storage and Web 2.0 applications. Google, a company who makes straight-up web 2.0 applications is scaring MS. Apple, a company who finally got their limelight with iPod years ago, got that limelight not because they had a Metro UI, but because they were innovative. They did something no one had done, and they did it well. The iPhone was one of the first of its kind of smartphones. What Microsoup needs to do is remember to be innovative. That doesn't mean putting shitty mobile UI on the same old OS you've always had. That means being innovative and creating more reasons for people to come use your OS. Cloud storage built in (which I'm happy to see they've done, kinda..) Cross-platform gaming between Windows and LIVE, new tools for PC users, (not just IIS) Direct X 12, and better OpenGL/CL support, and most importantly, complete control over the GUI experience, allowing users to make their desktops look exactly what THEY want it to look like. If MS gave users more freedom over how their OS looks, what would that say about MS?

People want freedom over their OS, no limitations, no governed UI's, and certainly not the same old bag of shit with a new look and a new number on the box. I WANT MS to be successful. I WANT MS to compete, but I want them to do it the RIGHT way, which is the make their OS better than it has ever been by offering new applications and new support for every-day applications we use. I want to see them rape the competition with DX12, I WANT to see them integrate LIVE with Windows and allow me to play with friends on XBOX Live through my PC. I want to store my entire HD onto a cloud so that when my shit fucks up, I know I'm covered! I want to see less third-party applications for customizing my desktop UI because there are limitless possibilities in Windows.

But I don't see any of those, so I can't justify spending the money for W8. I want to get it so F*CKING bad, but there is literally no change from W7 to W8. I want MS to wake up and give us Windows lovers out there a reason to continue supporting their OS. A reason to say "F*CK MAC, and F*CK Linux".

But they didn't. Not this time around. You don't know how bad I want to buy W8 and use it... you really don't. But MS didn't give me anything innovative, new, or even fun or productive, so why should I upgrade? I'm sure nobody cares if I want to upgrade or not, and that's fine, but I'm just one out of the millions who feel this exact way. We want MS to be creative and innovative, not just hire a new team to make such a cheap OS that it's literally like $36 to upgrade to the Pro version. Make me an OS worthy of $300 and I'll F*CKING buy it tomorrow. THAT is how you compete. THAT is how you inspire creativity.

MAKE. GOOD. SHIT.

Also, I hope you grow a F*CKING wart inside of your C*CK and can't piss for a year for comparing me to either of those F*CKING retarded tools. Nothing I've said in this thread hints to some F*CKING conspiracy theory you think exists in my head or anyone else's. You need to understand the difference between a concerned consumer who wants to invest money into an OS they've grown up with, and someone who despises MS. Obviously anyone who despises MS will openly say they do. If anything, I'm open to any OS if it can do the job better. Hell, I'm typing this post on a F*CKING Macbook Pro, and I just finished installing my VMware image of CentOS (12, I think?). I'm also getting ready to switch from iOS to Android on my cellphone. My wife owns a Galaxy S2 tablet. We love all OS's here, but we want MS to understand that innovation leads to success, not the other way around.

Post Re: Steam Linux
Literally no change between 7 and 8? Do you even know what you're saying?

Reasons 8 is better than 7, to start:
- it's faster
- it boots faster
- it has full touchscreen support
- it has vastly improved power management
- it's more secure
- it's cheaper
- task manager is better
- IE is better (and don't give me that 'ie blowzors' crap when IE has over 25% of the market share -- the fact that they've improved it means a lot)

That's just for starters. You're coming in here saying that they're pushing people away from PC gaming simply because you don't like the user interface? Really?

People want freedom over their OS? No limitations, no governed UI's? Really? Where can I download the source code for the 2 biggest operating system platforms on the market (win/mac)? Oh, that's right. Nowhere. Because they're not open source, and they're not flexible or free. And they never will be.

I compared you to those douchetards because you came in here saying:
1) that MS is releasing the exact same thing as Windows 7 under a different name just to get more money out of people (which isn't true -- there are TONS of differences). That = "zomg evil corporation"
2) that Win 8 sucks because of what's different from 7, which is directly hypocritical to what you said when you first came in here. That = flip-flopping on your argument

zomg evil corporation + flip-flopping on your argument = douchetard.

Btw, the latest version of CentOS is 6.

Post Re: Steam Linux
WOW! A new task manager?! Does that mean it's easier for me to end task when shit blows up? Do your research, it was just a new UI.
WOW! Better power management, too? Does that mean Windows 8 won't use all the 1100 watts I have from my PSU? = Useless for desktop users.
WOW! FULL TOUCHSCREEN SUPPORT! Does that mean I can play Angry Birds on PC now and feel like a MAC user, or I can minimize MS Word with my fingers now instead of a mouse? = Useless to desktop users.
WOW! It comes with MSE pre-installed instead of a download so that means it's more secure? = No encryption changes or security changes other than retarded Android-like "lock screen" which already comes on many Windows laptops.

So apart from it booting just a shit-bit faster, and being a bit better on performance, which is also not new for any new OS release, what's new? You said for starters, but I really don't think you can come up with legit shit that really is better about the OS for PC users. As I said, MS tailored to a specific market, and offered absolutely nothing for PC users.

I don't see a damned thing where I flip-flopped. I still don't like the OS, I still won't buy it. A new UI being different in Windows 7 is the only major change they've made to the OS, which is really sad to see. Sorry, but I'm not going to let you make me look stupid when you can't even understand the point I'm trying to make really isn't about the GUi, it's about the OS as a whole and how the UI is just eye-candy for the masses.

Oh, and I'll be sure to keep in mind that IE is getting better after 20 years of being a pile of shit, and now looks like Microsoft Office. There's a reason the shit costs $36 dollars to upgrade to, but I'm still trying to figure out if the whole $36 is for the new CTRL+ALT+DEL UI, or if it's all for that security they put into Security Essentials by just pre-installing it for me, so the Geek Squad didn't have to.

After like three F*CKIN' years, we got a new task-manager UI and a lock-screen?

In all seriousness, though, I hear it's doing good things in the enterprise market, or so I think that's what Strange said. I still don't like the OS, and I don't support it. It brings nothing new to the table and that = piece of shit OS.

Post Re: Steam Linux
So, the question is, can you disable the new UI shit in win8 or are you forced to use it?

If you can disable it and customize what you want so it's more like win7, then good.

If they force you to use their new UI garbage, then F*CK them, it's not better than win7.

So, can you disable it for a more standard windows experience, or must you use it?

This is a pretty big factor, because it decides whether or not win8 is garbage or it is acceptable.

Post Re: Steam Linux
- "nothing good came out of this for PC consumers"
- /me lists lots of good that came out of it for PC consumers -- definitely not all windows users, but that wasn't the argument
- acid flips his lid and whines like a bitch over something that costs $36 that he's still going to buy in the future anyway (I find this hilarious given how much you've talked about being willing to spend for music software)

How about you look at it like this?

There are very few beneficial changes for you. The only one that comes to mind is that new games are only going to support Windows 8. You may see that as a downside, but it's not Microsoft's fault. Game developers don't want to have to support 3 different Windows versions. They only want to support one. It's way WAY cheaper to support one. If they support the newest one, then their game will have the most longevity. Alas, it's a F*CKING benefit whether you like it or not.

Now, for such a small benefit, what are you going to spend on it? The $100+ that MS was charging for XP upgrades almost 10 years ago? NOEP. They're cutting that price down by 60+%. Are they accounting for the 25+% inflation we've had in the last 10 years? NOEP.

Small amount of beneficial changes (with one real undeniable benefit) + small cost = quit F*CKING whining and buy the F*CKING OS.

You get what you pay for, amirite?

I'm happy to say that I have no idea what that is.

If gamers are actually forced to use it, then someone will probably make a prog or find some way to disable it. But, hopefully it will be just a foot note like vista was. I went straight from XP to 7.

Win8 is so shitty, I used it yesterday at best buy to look up some prices and a little info. I wanted to punch the F*CKING monitor. Internet explorer does like this all-time full screen thing, and pushing F11 wouldn't make it go away. Also the address bar and back/refresh/stop buttons also vanish and putting the cursor down (yes down, the F*CKING address bar is at the bottom instead of the top, F*CKING RETARDED!) where it should be to make it appear, DOES NOT make it appear. This is F*CKING retarded. This is supposed to be user friendly? What a joke.

Here I've been using windows since mother F*CKING windows 3.1 and DOS and I don't even have the F*CKING foggiest idea how to even find the back button in internet explorer, the most F*CKING MUNDANE operation there is on a browser, yet this is supposed to be a user-friendly upgrade? ARE YOU F*CKING SHITTING ME!

micro$hit can suck a F*CKING turd out of my puckered asshole.

You have to think about the entire range of Microsoft's customers. You also have to consider the grandmas, etc.

If you don't like Windows, uninstall it, switch to Linux -- you'll be back to Windows within a month.
