The new Facebook IPO is coming out. I was going to cash in some stock and buy up some, but after looking at it, I just can't do it. They're coming out at 38 bucks a share! I think that's almost triple what it's worth. They'll have to make billions in profit to cover that kind of value, it's bullshit.
So, I'm either going to facepalm myself in a few years (for not buying) or I'll be doing a happy dance, heh.

Yeah, I agree with you on that they will have to make a shit ton of profit to keep the value of their stock up, I don't think they will be another google IPO though, they need to create some new ways of advertising revenue(thru mobile advertising), or be creative with it. IMO its gonna be a risky investment, but then again facebook has one amazing following(wasn't it 900 million accts last time i checked?). So it could easily do very well, then again, it could tank after a few months with how high it is being released at. But then again I know quite a few people(including myself) still kicking themselves for not jumping on googles IPO. RISKY INVESTMENTS ARE RISKY.

wait about a week or 2 until all the employees start selling off their shares then buy it. The influx in the amount available on the market should cause the price to drop. Who knows, you may be able to pick it up for less than $38
...or it will just keep going up and we can all be pissed about not buying it together :/

Re: I'm either going to eat it or not, heh.
.23 cent gain today. Wow, just wow. I've read, in many different places, that they're going to have to spend something to the tune of 16 billion buying up other businesses -and- get their profits up to 15 billion/year in order to justify this 38/share price. Another bit that I read is that it's 100% hype, they should have had an initial IPO of 0.44 cents, that's it. That price is according to how the company is doing today. Not future projects. It's a nail biter! Edit: Oh, and this: Code: As of February 2, 2012, it had 845 million monthly users and 443 million daily users. So, though they claim almost 1 Billion users, the real number is closer to a half million. It's like saying, n00bfest.com has 2780 active community members, when the number is probably 1/10 that.

I read the letter to investors. Facebook is still in a good position to become a good investment but seeing as how I've not bought one share of stock in any company ever, I'm gonna not try to persuade you of this because it'd be a moot point.

Seeing as how Facebook closed at $38.23 a share on Friday, I think you made the right choice not buying. If Facebook was destined to be like Google, it should have closed at somewhere closer to $50 a share or higher. There was so much talk about this IPO so the investors clearly know something about Facebook that makes them stay away from it.

Re: I'm either going to eat it or not, heh.
Well a large part of the whole Facebook phenomena is that it isn't designed to be a money making operation. It's designed to encompass the totality of online communication to a significant degree, which it has and will probably continue doing. It's basically a giant dragnet for social connections and is more of a surveillance tool than anything else. If the stock market worked like a stock market 'should', it'd be more about making sound investments based upon your belief in what a company does and how it does these things as opposed to buying and selling based upon profit margins and the potential of increase.

It took a %10.99 dip today. Imagine being one of the "million dollar" shareholders, they ate $100k+ in shares, BOOM! I'd buy it for a dollar though, heh.

stock is taking a pounding, and the media is piling on as well.
Might not be a bad pickup if it bottoms out, hard to gauge where the true value is.

If it dips down to around $24-$25 it will be a solid purchase. Who knows though Glad I didnt jump on to begin with, it was valued way too high. Should have opened low 30s high 20s if you ask me.

At the current profit/loss, it's only worth about 0.44 cents/share. That's just going by what FB says they have done in the past. When the real financials come out, you'll see a huge dip, yep yep.
