Post new season of thrones
This new season looks to be off to a great start. I have a serious boner for this series. For any that have read the books do you think reading them will ruing the series for me? Like with many great stories the books are usually much better than the show/movie, and I don't want to feel like the TV show is a let down if i read ahead.

I saw the first season and now I am reading the first book, so far they have matched most of it. I would do both I like it :) I missed the first episode of the second season so I am going to have to find it on the webz. I dont think you will be disappointed with it.

I've read all of the books. You should watch the tv series then read the books. George RR Martin release the last book 2 or 3 years later. You should also get your queer ass back in the server...so I can kill you.

The ending of the first episode of the second season confused me a bit but I understood it, just took me a while since they didn't really explain it too well. They just jumped into it.

The books are way more in-depth as far as character devolopment and history. For example Tyrion is a great character in the series, but in the books his inner monolouge is hilarious and gives the reader a better feel for the character. I would read the books first, mostly because I would like the whole story before I watch these particular writers perspective on the story. Also, HBO simply cant afford to put the whole story onto TV, because of the immense scope of the characters, settings, and narrative in the books.

That being said.... I'm a super huge fan of the series and have a gigantic chub while I'm typing this.

Yeah, books are often way better. Another good example, perhaps a more extreme example, is the difference between the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind and the TV show "Legend of the Seeker". It went from epic adventure to "oh shit, it's Brisco County meets Hercules meets Xena" because all four were done by Sam Raimi (of Spiderman/Evil Dead fame).

I think HBO did a pretty damn good job for the first season. I mean honestly 10 1 hour episodes for one book is pretty fair in my opinion. also i hear the second will be 10 episodes as well so i'm quite pumped for it.
