 How'd you discover n00b?
I am assume this has probably already been asked many times. But I am new, and I haven't obviously seen the post if someone has already asked this, so I guess I will make one myself. LOL
Anyways, I discovered n00b out of random luck actually. Was just playing some CS:S and I discovered that I suck. My aim with all guns was horrible. I moved like a CoD player. And I wasn't very supportive of my team. So in the end I decided to find a serious server, and I would begin "training". In that process I found the n00b server, I was instantly hooked too. It was so fun to finally play on a serious server for once. I had been so used to Gun Games, Minigames, etc. I felt this was a new experience for me. Which was sad because I've have the game for 2 years now (a total of somewhere around 170+ hours of game play) and I had not once played a serious match. Anyways, I played, I had fun, and I met you guys; the n00b crew I guess I shall call it in this post. Such as Strange [∆F], Ashley :(, etc. Alright, I hadn't actually met you guys yet (for I have no mic... yet and I am new to this forum) but I have played on the n00b server a countless number of times enough to have heard most of the n00b members talk and know them individually. And I guess that's it, this is my story. I hope to continue playing on the n00b server and be a fun person to play with. You guys are really cool too. :)

Same here, found the server by accident and have never left. Why would I, that would be just insane!

 Re: How'd you discover n00b?
n00b isn't a 'serious' server, it is a fun and diverse pub. For srs servers you join [n00b] as an [rct] and you'll have access to Ventrilo which allows you to play in 10-man scrims for srs vs other [n00b] and [rct].
I joined the server one day because my sister is a member of the community and then I got queerbaited into signing up and apparently I'm not done eating my queerbait because I haven't moved on.

 How'd you discover n00b?
Started in 1.5 I was trying to find a server I could play on with 56k that didn't lag like balls and didn't kick me for high ping. SANF was that server. That was almost 10 years ago... Jesus.

I got Zander addicted to CS, and he joined the community, then I eventually decided (a year later) to start playing on the server.

 Re: How'd you discover n00b?
I happened upon n00bfest a few years back by chance. The people here made me laugh and learn how to play a little better. I haven't left yet...

 Re: How'd you discover n00b?
This was when I just moved down to Pensacola, FL to be an Avionics instructor for new Navy Sailors (been in the Navy for 13 years now, about to get out and start a new life) back in 2004 -- started playing Condition Zero and found this server called Southern Alabama n00bfest (SANF, for those who don't know and have wondered about it when I'm in the server wearing that tag). I figured, since I was around that area, maybe I'll meet some people around me. Started playing here around Thanksgiving of 2004 and haven't played in any other server -- unless we're pirating it!

 Re: How'd you discover n00b?
Love hearing the SANF stories.
I found n00bfest thanks to Code Destination around late 2007, early 2008. He introduced me to the CSS server and I remember all kinds of characters, many of whom are no longer around much, if ever.

 Re: How'd you discover n00b?
Warning - Wall of text below.
I was Heretic. There was no Reborn at that point. After making the switch to 1.6 after holding off for so long, my then clan mates all retired to their happy lives, abandoning CS. When CZ came out, I refused to touch it. Even after CSS came out, I did not want to make the switch for a long time.
Finally when I made the switch, I started going from server to server to find a good home. As I had been playing with extremely skilled teammates for several years, I was good, and I tried hard to be the best in every single match in every single server. That meant a lot of getting banned from pretty good servers.
During one of those days in the Fall/Winter of 2006, thanks to a random server search, I stumbled upon n00bfest. To me, it was just another server to play in so that I can show them who's boss. It was the first time I encountered what seemed to be the cyber HQ of the KKK, with a lot of newbies being oblitered by a couple of people called "DocWonder" and "Apokolypse". I found my mission, and made it my goal to hunt them down and I didn't care who stood in my way.
During my conquest, I got to know the server and its regulars intimately. By showing no mercy to the newbies, none of them liked me. By doing that to the admins, I made enemies. I couldn't care less. I was there to sharpen my skills to the max, and to prove to the world that you don't need to play competitively to be pro-level at this game.
Then I met him. My arch enemy to be - Joe Mamma. We were at war. He had all of the admin tools at his disposal, and I had my unwavering will, defiance and skill. He won every single time. He would burn me, kick me, slap me to 1 HP, slay me, make me a time/fire/freeze bomb, drop guns out of my hands and ban me so many times I couldn't even begin to count. His army of n00bs supported him by doing that while he was not around. I wouldn't waver. It seemed like I would get banned at least twice per day.
The crucial point came when the then owner, Mr. Corpse was playing and I killed him every single round like a predator drawn to its prey. It didn't go well. It didn't take too long until he invoked the ultimate power and permanently banned me from the server.
I am still indebted to Apokolypse for being the sole soul in n00bfest who stood by my side. At a time where everyone else was against me, he broke from the crowd and stood his ground, which earned him the ridicule of fellow n00bs. Even that wouldn't change the minds of those in power back then.
For almost the entirety of 2007, I remained banned, while I rarely played CS and focused on my studies. When my CS cravings returned stronger than ever, I started over. Heretic was no more. Heretic was Reborn. I visited his old crazy server and found out that I was not banned anymore. It was the era of Reborn. Trying to keep a low profile, I started n00b hunting with a vengeance, and once again Joe Mamma was attracted to me like a magnet, as if we were destined to be arch enemies.
By then, I had lost my desire to be the best, and I didn't feel like I had to prove anything. I had come to know so many people who at first look seemed like assholes, but were quite decent men hiding behind a tough exterior. It had become my CS home without me realizing it. Pure hatred paved way to acceptance, and I started talking to my fellow players in game (which I rarely used to do), getting to know them, and getting them to know me. Before I knew it, I became friends with even Joe Mamma himself, which no one thought would happen. Years passed, and I shed my lone wolf character and decided to become a member of n00b. Under the new leadership of Gman, I became an RCT, a n00b, held a seat at the Council, and even became an admin.
Despite having lost my interest in CSS (and gaming in general), I still play here whenever I get some free time just to be with the community, and will continue to do so for as long as n00bfest remains.
