Need a little help with my f'ed PC
I know this is in the wrong section; I just want it viewed by more than 2 people. The video is lame, but so am I, and I need help. Is this just my hard drive that has failed? I want to get this fixed quick, because not having a PC is like a junkie without a needle.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kz47s5q ... ata_player

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
I get a similar crash every once in awhile myself. The system locks up at the acer screen and I have to turn the system on and off, but mine is not as bad as yours. A friend of mine suggested it might be something with my BIOS, I wonder if it's the same with you.

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
I'm pretty sure its not your hard drive, but your BIOS. Which means your motherboard.

Do you have a spare disc or something to even see if you can even boot from a disc? the whole thing might be shit.

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
1st: make sure all connections are secure and properly connected inside the pc 2nd: try reseating your ram sticks or using different slots 3rd: try using a different sata header for your harddrive on the motherboard 4th: I would try to run a memtest and harddrive test from a bootable cd. (if you cannot make a bootable cd you can try from a flashdrive)
5th: try resetting the cmos battery on your motherboard.
To do this locate the cmos battery Jumper (your mobo manual should have a picture of where its found) simply pull move the jumper that usually connects pins 1 and 2 and move it so it connects pins 2 and 3.
Wait a few minutes But do not turn the Pc on
Now replace the jumper back to pins 1 and 2.
IF YOUR PC DOES NOT HAVE JUMPERS
you will need to locate the cmos battery and carefully remove it from the motherboard, Wait 20-30 minutes and replace it back on the board.
unfortunately this is a somewhat shot in the dark fix
6th: try to flash your bios using a cd or flash drive (once again if you cannot make one or boot from the flash drive you might be S.O.L) try to call the manufacturer to see if they can send you a free bootable bios flasher
7th: assuming all your other hardware is good including your Psu it is probably a dead motherboard and will need to be replaced.

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
A few days ago when a trojan fucked the shit out of my computer I just wiped it all clean. I know it's not something you want to do, but it's an option if nothing else can be done and you don't want to spend money having it fixed.

If it's his BIOS that won't help, it'll just erase all of his files. (Unless he actually wants to start fresh, in which case obviously it'll help)

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
Usually when things like this happen, it's due to the BIOS or overheating temperatures of the CPU or GPU.
Turn the computer off for a couple hours. Turn it back on. How far do you get?

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
Best advice I can give you since you keep that monster on the floor, is to open that bad boy up and knock the dust of that PC. It's kinda like what you gotta do for MILFs that haven't gotten any in awhile. If dust is accumulating on the fans and heatsink, it can cause components in there to overheat. I can safely say that since it is under the desk, heavy, and hard to access probably, then it be dusty in ther. Some computers will prevent you from running the computer for long periods of time and shut down as a prevention measure. I know that I have joked about this in the past, but take a try and replacing the power supply. This would be to overheating issues as well. If the power supply is bad, it may supply power to certain hardware devices in the computer, but stop supplying power to something that the initial posting is trying to access. Just remember Dust-Off makes you walk on sunshine! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ULPktjNserc

A dusting out of that computer would probably not hurt

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
Definitely looks like a bios/mobo related issue.

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
General steps take:
Remove hard drive, try to post. -If problem disappears, reattatch hard drive and try to replicate issue. -If issue is replicated, could be harddrive, sata/sas cable or port.
If problem persists without hard drive. -Reseat internal components, all of them. (Proc, memory, etc.) -reset CMOS. -if error remains, replace motherboard.

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
Thanks for all the helpful tips guys. I cleaned all the dust out if it yesterday and confirmed all the connections are properly seated. I didn't check the RAM, but I will, because I've had issues with that before. I am having a crazy morning, but I will try some other troubleshooting points you guys have provided and let you know what I find out.

Re: Need a little help with my f'ed PC
got my computer fixed. had to buy a new motherboard, so i got this. and while i was at the store i decided to get this too. the only downside is i had to re-install windows. it saved all my old data, thank god for the windows.old folder, but it's going to take me a while to filter through it all and move it into the new windows directories. just wanted to say thanks again for your help :D
