Our team consists of Sean Gonzalez, Pablo Penton, Robert Martinez, and Andrew Julian. We are all college students going to various schools. Three of us are DJs at FIU student radio where we will be playing. We got together as a team during the summer of ‘08 to partake in The Zeldathon ‘08. We had so much playing those games for a good cause that we’ve decided to keep the title of our team and keep on playing games for any and all reasons.
About Zeldathon ‘09

We are playing 7 Zelda video games, non-stop, for 72 hours to raise money for the National Children’s Advocacy Center (NCAC). We will be webcasting the entire event on UStream and will be taking your chat room comments, as well as video and voice call-ins. If we are unable to complete all the games within 72 hours, we will continue playing until all the games are completed.

Why are you doing this?

Last year we held the Zeldathon ‘08 event, which was a nice success and raised over $1,400 for Child’s Play Charity, so we decided to do it again. This year we’ve decided to spread the wealth and have all donations go straight to the National Children’s Advocacy Center.

Are you guys any good at Zelda?

Yes and no… Although we have beaten our fair share of Zelda games, we are not experts. We won’t be speed running and we may get lost, but we are good enough to hold the controller correctly. If things get desperate or we get scared, we’ll be using any and all walkthroughs, hints, tips, or help we can get, which includes help from the webcast chat room..

You guys know you aren’t the first to try this, right?

Yes. Thank you for pointing that out. Video game marathons for charity have been a pretty common thing since 2008, but we don’t see that as any reason to deter us from trying to do what we can to help make a difference.

How do the donations work?

Donations will go straight to the National Children’s Advocacy Center. You can use the ChipIn service on the donation and home page. You will receive a PayPal receipt through email. There will be an organizer email (which is Pablo Penton’s email, ppenton4 AT gmail.com) and an email where donations are going to (the NCAC email). All of the money goes straight to the NCAC and isn’t touched, in any way, by any member of the Zeldathon team. Your donations are also tax deductible.

What will you play on?

A couch. Seriously though, we will play the first two on the Master Quest for the Gamecube. The third will be on Sean’s Wii’s Virtual Console. The N64 versions will also be played from the Master Quest. Windwaker will be played on the Gamecube, and Twilight will be on the Wii. We’ll have two Wii’s and multiple Gamecubes to prevent overheating. Mostly Gamecube controllers will be used unless the classic controller and wiimote/nunchuck is available.

Will you guys take any breaks?

We will be taking all and any necessary breaks; bathroom, sleep, food, and general resting. There are five of us so someone will always have their hand on a controller.

How can I get involved?

Thanks for asking! Basically, we need help getting the word out there about our event. Tell your friends, your mom, your cousin, and even your cat. Donations are obviously appreciated.

Will you guys ever play Zelda again?

Maybe. We don’t know yet, it might haunt us forever, but there are many games out there in the world, and we may do another marathon in the future.

About Game Marathon Invitational

We had all sorts of ideas of what we would do during winter break and then we threw them out the window when we were offered the chance to play one of each game from an incredibly challenging list of games. The Wily Whompers sent us an email and offered us the chance to see who could beat the games faster. Because our team wasn’t adept at all the games, we added a few members to the team and we got to work.
About Zeldathon ‘08

The Zelda Marathon was an attempt to play the following Legend of Zelda games within 72 hours: The Legend of Zelda, The Adventure of Link, A Link To The Past, Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, The Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess. We hoped to raise money for the charity Child’s Play through donations from our webcast viewers. After 104 hours of gaming, we managed to beat all the games and surpass both our original goal of $1,000 and our second goal of $1,337 and raise $1,468.66 for the charity. All in all, a major success.
