Post *Update* Just a little thought for you all
This is going to be the hardest Christmas of all time for me.

It's been 3 weeks since my dad is at the hospital for "water" in his lung. A week ago, he had his tests to find out if it was or not a lung cancer. Tonight we just learned that it is a mesothelioma. A rare form of cancer that develops from the protective lining that covers his lungs and his heart. I'd hope I could say he's going to make it, but chimiotherapy can't even help to cure it.

So this is my way to tell you that I won't be around for a while. My last final exam is wednesday, then I'll be gone for a while, I need to be with him.

You know, it's hard for me to believe that at 21, and in a couple of months, I won't have a father (physicly) anymore. My sister is pregnant since 2 months, and it's gonna be a lot harder for her since he's never going to see her child. Take this moment during Christmas to tell your family you love them, because believe me, you don't want to wait until something like this happens to one of your family members to tell them you love them. I've had some bad situations, and I've hurt myself a lot, but this is what hurts the most, knowing that one of the biggest part of your life will be gone is a solid hit in your face and in your heart.

I hope you for the best, and stay safe, I care about this community even though I'm an ass sometimes.

And I really needed to talk about it, I'm not done with it, and it's gonna be a huge step to cross with my whole family and friends.

I love you all
Merry Christmas my friends.

Dom

Sorry to hear that man. My grandfather had that same form of cancer. He got it from getting asbestos in his lungs working for the government and in construction for like 50 years. He was a tough old man, and he fought it for 10 years by carrying oxygen around with him and such. It was the last few years that he started getting pneumonia, which knocked him down hard each time, until the last time when his body couldn't recover. He lost weight in a matter of days and could no longer walk. We knew it was his time, and we put him in hospice to keep him as comfortable as possible. My family always said they would never resuscitate or keep him on life support, until I told them the oxygen was his life support. It was a few days later, after traveling family members had a chance to say goodbye, and most importantly my grandma, that they removed his oxygen mask and within an hour he took his last breath and passed peacefully to the other side.

While this is something that will never be easy for anyone, it is the one unfortunate guarantee in life that it must come to an end. Be thankful that you get to spend time with him on his remaining days, because so many people lose loved ones without getting to say goodbye or I love you. He is suffering, and as hard as it is for you and your family to see him go, he will no longer be in pain or physical misery. Your love will live on and your family will grow stronger. He will still be there in spirit, and I guarantee he will surprise you with his presence. Continue to live your life and make him proud. And never be afraid to call on your friends or family in moments of weakness. ♥

I lost my father to cancer (lymphoma) about three and a half years ago. It's hard.

Best wishes.

My wife's aunt, who has pretty much been a second mother to both of us at times, is fighting brain cancer. It was in the 4th stage when they found it. We are really thankful for the advances in the medical fields - she's doing much better but in chemotherapy...they removed 97% of the cancer.

It's not easy and no one can prepare you for what you and your family may go through. Just rely and lean on your family and remember that there is hope out there - for us religious folk, we'll keep you and your family in our prayers.

Best wishes Lecoq,

Protege

One of my grandparents died from a form of lung cancer after it had been in remission for several years and he had quit drinking and smoking. It's definitely okay that you are already accepting that the worst could happen because of the nature of your father's illness and I urge you to make his final days a celebration of his life and of what has been shared over the years and to show him that even though he might be dying early that nothing in his life was in vain.

I know the pain of a dying parent on more than one occasion. At 21 years of age.

It's tough. You start to question everything you've ever known. But all in all, it's your own personal strength that keeps you going.

Best wishes to you my friend. I've always got an open ear, but spend as much time with him as you can.
