Post True 7.1 Surround Sound.
I need a headset capable of true 7.1 surround sound. I've been searching left and right for one, and can't find one. A true 7.1 headset means no F*CKING USB onbaord sound controllet bullshit. It would be nice if it also has 5.1 compatibility as well. Price is not an issue. Any ideas?

The answer is: They don't exist.

And no, I'm not trollin.

I also haven't seen anything from any company saying that they are in the works, since the idea of true headphone surround sound isn't really possible.

I'm guessing he's not using them for gaming since 7.1 would be overkill. Probably doing audio mixing. If that's the case, I wouldn't use headphones period. Get a set of monitors instead.

It's a USB headset....

I am doing audio mixing, channel mixing, etc... I don't like using monitors because they don't produce enough of the small sounds I add into the mix. That's why I need a headset. Also, when I play guitar I can't use my USB Fatality headset because the sound gets really choppy when it comes through. I need to be able to record with one card, and listen with the same. Not have to use a sound card to record my guitar, then use some shitty headphones in a USB to listen to it.

There are no true 7.1 headphones/headsets right now. Every available product uses algorithms to emulate 7.1 surround sound. There are some 5.1 headsets that actually use true dolby digital 5.1 (with individual drivers for each speaker), which is as close as it gets.

From the research I did for myself, there are only 2 true 5.1 headsets that are any good - Medusa and Triton Axpro. They're both considered really good for gaming and movie watching, but are far worse than regular stereo headphones (like the Sennheiser hd550+) for audio creation/mixing.

For your purposes, going for 5.1/7.1 would e an utter waste of money. You need proper monitor speakers - http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/na ... 001+338382

Headsets won't give you satisfactory results, but if you absolutely must use headphones, a good quality stereo headset will be way better than any of the 5.1/7.1 headsets out there.

the reason I can't do monitors is because I live in an apartment. However, the 5.1 solution sounds good. Are those the only one's with individual hookups? I thought the Sennheiser 350 had individual hookups... or maybe it was just a 1-in, 1-out cable hookup. I'm really leaning towards sennheiser, but, I'm not quite sure yet.

All Sennheiser models are stereo and use normal 1/8" and 1/4" connectors. There are some other true 5.1 headsets, but the Medusa and axpro are considered to be the best right now.

Some others -

and

But the Sennheisers are pretty much at the top when it comes to stereo headphones.

The psyko looks like it's 1 good drop away from being a waste of $300.

I'm old so it's a little too flashy for my tastes. Maybe when I hit my mid-life crisis. The idea is interesting, but I still don't see how a headset can do TRUE SS.

The head pads are more than head pads.

those do actually look pretty insane, considering they use the same type of technology that Mazda used in their Rx7..which i havent seen used again in another vehicle under 30k
