So, my friend was having trouble with some of the computers in his house. When they did a search from any search engine, and clicked on a link, it would redirect them to a spam page. We spent around 7 or so hours trying to fix this issue over the course of 2 or 3 days. We couldnt figure it out, even after running tons of anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and HijackThis from in windows, safe-mode, and a Mini XP booted from the Hiren's BootCD 11.0. So, last night we decided to just reinstall his operating system onto a new hard drive. After doing that he was still having the exact same issue. Than we thought we should restart the router and guess what, the problem is no more on any computer (I wouldnt have thought of that if his mother didn't say that someone she knows thought it might be a DNS issue). I cannot believe it took me that long to realize that it might be a router issue. Stupid Security+ class talking about worms got me distracted. But it all turned out well cause we fixed the issue and his parents gave us money for food (free hamburger and Coca Cola FTW).

You have to think about the scope of it. If it's one computer...maybe a virus, but if its everything you have to find the common denominator. The first thing I thought was they were connecting to unsecured wireless and someone was F*CKING with them.
