i dont like the idea of a big brother society, but as long as they are not miss using the power i dont really see a problem. unfortunately as our populations grows so does the probability of stupid ppl doing stupid things. as for cameras if they can help save lives, by quicker medical responses to accidents or putting a face to crimes that might take longer to solve. thats why you have to be careful who you have running your country and thats why voting and getting to know your candidates is so very important not only in EU but we have to here in the US. another thing you have to watch are laws that get enacted by your leaders. laws that are enacted now can hurt us later under different leaders. really have to think about the future. and like you said if your not doing anything wrong there should be point in worrying about it.

Don't we have a right of privacy or something like that? >_>
I always failed history and shit.

The thought of someone watching me while I scratch myself makes me uneasy.

If you have nothing to hide then who cares...if someone wants to watch my scratch my balls or have phone sex with an 80 year old women on a 900 hotline, then grab some popcorn and enjoy

I agree with Tek, but also I think people are born evil and have to earn the right to be trusted.

Guess you haven't made it into NYC yet. Cameras are almost everywhere, as well as NYPD Stormtroopers. George Orwell was off by about 20years...

Can I vote NO more than once? Seriously, I'm not kidding!!!
Our society is DEFINITELY Orwellian. If you actually sit down and READ this book, it's hard to even finish it because it is so clear that this is the way we are heading. I value my freedom and am scared for my kids...what kind of life are they going to have?

the problem with our society is a double edged sword
with our big population, most of us don't live in an area where "everyone knows everyone," and because of this people do not feel accountable or responsibility for their actions when they are around people they dont know.
how many times have you been with your friends and done something totally outrageous in front of a ton of people and said "who cares, they dont know me."
knowing that people do not feel accountable for their actions in places where no one knows them our governments have to take measures in order to protect private property and public facilities. everyone draws their line in a different place when it comes to government surveillance of the general population. but why are people so fearful? its because time and time again people who are in power abuse it and therefore everyone is scared that those in control now will do the same. so then we have to have the watchers watched by someone else, but who watches them??
the problem is people like to "feel free." they dont like to feel like their being controlled. the problem with that is that no matter how free people "feel" their still being controlled. those who are in control know this and do their best to hide their control and some forms of control are so subtle that we're just now understanding how they work. anyways it sucks because no one trusts anyone, for me the problem lies in the question why are we so afraid of each other? answer that and actually do something about it and maybe things wont be so bad.
edit: i voted yes with restrictions, Patriot Act needs some revisions.

I don't mind a big brother society, but that's because I'm old and boring and I don't really get out and do social things very often.
I rarely drink, I don't smoke (anything), I don't do any drugs, and I don't go looking for hookers or crimes to commit.
I guess Big Brother doesn't have any effect on me until it invades my home. I say let them monitor the outdoors and police the shit out of it.
