I really prefer not having to worry so much about licensing and crap like that, and find the freer environment provided by various Linux distros to be more my cup of tea but one thing holds me back, and that's compatibility (native) with Steam and Valve games.

This port was announced 2 years ago, but Valve is still looking for someone to do it for them from what this says.

Being a Linux guru has nothing to do with it. You don't even need to be a Linux user. You need to be extremely proficient in cross platform system programming (using gcc compiler), and using c++ for that is very hard. I suppose for an experienced team, porting games that use OpenGL is not a big challenge. Things get insanely messy when you are dealing with custom engines.

My purpose in mentioning Linux users is those with a vested interest in seeing this happen.

I just use wine, when I want to play windows games on my linux box..

I doesn't wanna use wine because it's non-native and has performance issues.
