i have heard rumors of being able to get around firewalls. i think that is what is hindering me from playing cs with a good ping, because i can download stuff at like 400 kb/s. can anyone help me get around my schools firewall.

firewalls don't bother games. you made the out going connection so it won't block it. Firewalls only block incoming connections.

Actually, I've written firewalls before and you can deny ports/protocols/ips from going either in OR out, or BOTH.

the school may be blocking or limiting the port that cz/cs:s comes in on. there is really no way around it as it faces the incoming pipe from the net

unless of course you have access to there main system, administrater passwords and a couple things like that lol

Basically you need to get inside the router/swtich that is running the firewall, and open up some ports. Most schools and other public places have someone come in and block out the "gaming" ports such as 2016 or w/e it is for cs. So if its not a "hardware" firewall and there running a program, shut it off or "Allow" it in the list of "safe" programs that most firewall programs have. Also If you visit the cs website/forum there should be some heplful advice for forwarding the ports via the router/switch setup your school has, the trouble is...trying to find out what kind there using. I would run an "ipconfig" command in the cmd prompt and see if it doesnt say who issued the ip, most likeley they will have it blocked so try some shortcut keys, run is "windows key + r" and then type "cmd" when u get to the prompt. Search around for more ways to bypass it though. All in all, you just have to reasearch your schools setup, get in good with the "geeks" that every school has running around class to class messing with the computers, and just start talking..theyll never know what hitem, we ran a RTCW server at my school for 2 years before it got "deleted".

They can deny outgoing too, but that's usually not the case. Unless he's playing from his dorm at college it wont be. But if he is, he's fucked unless he can make love to the network admin.

Hey F*CK you. I was one of those "nerdy" kids who ran around all day and worked on the computers, haha. I was the assistant network admin for our high school.

But, what he is saying is true. I'd do favors, for kids like you, who wanted to bypass some stuff. I hosted a few gaming servers and set up a proxy or two. Hell, I would have done it for a little cash.

Just find who they are and ask/bribe them. It'll work. Not all of them are going to be wearing glasses and overalls. I sure as hell didn't.

Just one more thing: There is --NO-- other way to do it. Unless you can either a) get into the server or b) get into the router's programming, you will --NOT-- be able to get around this problem.

basically try putting in your "default gateway" into Internet explorer, it normally takes you to a "config" page where u setup different things on the router and allow/disallow ports and userconnections, its going to ask you for a password, thats why i said look around for people who know that info, they can help u out alot better than i can.

Also, look for the default logins for the routers and stuff. Sometimes retards don't change them.

Try easy ones like "administrator" and "password"

old tread i know, but need help once more. ok we all just got moved into some old barracks and we have full access to EVERYTHING, i even found the routers and switches. so i have internet but, it restricts some ports i quess. i can play on us beastville server but that is the only cz server i can see. is there anyway to reset the hub manually...... ive already tried the reset button. if i turn it completely off will it lose its info or what. ive already tried what orex told me last year. ty for the help
