General aiming and firing questions from a noob.
I've spectated enough to figure out how you should aim and where you should fire in certain contexts, but I'd like to ask them to the general public for some clarification.
Hitting moving targets: I notice a lot of the time that when you are firing at one of these that players aim behind the target. I try this a lot of the time, and I don't often get a hit off. Tell me what I'm doing wrong.
General firing: I know that while standing still, your first two or three shots are pretty accurate. If your enemy isn't dead by then, though, you obviously have to shoot him more. Oftentimes, this is the part where I end up spraying and missing all of my shots.
So yeah, give me what you got (and flame on, if you want :P). I will say that CS:S is a lot different than most other shooters (with a much higher learning curve), and though I've gotten a little better, I've still got a long way to go, and any general knowledge you can give me of firing mechanics will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

bind [ "cl_interp_ratio 1"
Hit [ at the beginning of every map.
Slow down and try.
Standing still is for squares. At longer range, strafe around randomly and fire off a burst at them right as you switch directions. When they're in your face spray like a madman. Try not to fire while running forward - avoid firing while moving backwards like the plague.

Re: General aiming and firing questions from a noob.
Source is full of fail.
This is just a guess, but let's say someone is firing at you and you go behind the wall and still get killed. On your screen, you're behind the wall but on the other person's screen you aren't(for a split second). cl_interp_ratio 1 reduces the chances of that happening and your shots will register more since Source's hit boxes are bad.
Basically, cl_interp_ratio 1 puts the hit boxes where they're supposed to be in. Right? O.o

Does it work vice-versa where i can put cl_interp_ratio 10, and my opponet may be right in front of me, when on his screen he ran to the other side of the map?

Re: General aiming and firing questions from a noob.
when you spec and someone is shooting at a moving target, it looks like they are shooting behind the player, but in fact they are not. the reason it looks that way is due to the slight lag you experience as a spectator.
i will try cl_interp_ratio 1, because mine is at like 0.3 and i'm always pissed about my reg and dying behind shit. if this works it could have a significant impact on my k/d. kitten, you could be my digital savior.

Re: General aiming and firing questions from a noob.
Pulse was doing a decent job of explain interp ratio and then veered off in to a tragic trainwreck of dumbass.
Basically your client sends updates to the server when you do something and the server calculates what's going on with everyone and everything in the server in X amount of screenshots per second and then sends those updates to your client.
However, if you client only drew the updates it got from the server, everything would look like an EA game where everything is clunky and retarded. Basically interpolation smooths all that out by "adding lag" to draw the in-betweens.
On a 100 tic server with the default server interp set to .1, every client with cl_interp_ratio 1 will essentially be playing with a 100ms built in visual lag time regardless of their ping. This is why when you turn on draw hitboxes, they follow behind the model. This prevents you from having to aim in front of that son of a bitch because by the time the server sees him there, your bullets are arriving (lag, your mom, acts of god, and 66tic not withstanding).
You're still going to die behind boxes and people are still going to get srsly bullshit shots, but your bullets are going to connect more consistently if you're actually shooting them in the face.

1. Close Eyes 2. Push down left Mouse button 3. Pray (optional)
In response to how you "spray" If you can't avoid spraying try to learn to control your spray.
Correct this because im probably wrong, but doesn't the ak spray in a sort of backwards 7 ? For the m4 i'm not shure of.

Yeah I control my spray too. Just watch where your bullets hit.

Re: General aiming and firing questions from a noob.
Unsilenced M4 spray basically goes straight up.
When I spray with an unsilenced M4, I generally aim down a bit if I don't have time. If I do have time, I try to snap my crosshairs to their neck or chest depending on how long I've been spraying. This almost always nets me one shot in to them for more than 19 damage and a headshot to finish them off.
Don't bother spraying with a silenced M4. It ain't gonna happen. Unless they're in your face Vin Diesel style, just burst fire.
The AK47 spray goes up for about 6 or 7 bullets and then flails wildly to the left and right (but I have noticed the right seems more concentrated). If you have to spray with the AK, make sure you're in your face and even then, you're probably better off just bursting about five shots in to them.

Re: General aiming and firing questions from a noob.
Along with typing cl_interp_ratio 1 you also might want to try cl_interp .01

Re: General aiming and firing questions from a noob.
cl_interp is determined by your interp ratio and server settings. You can set it all day, but it will only default back to it's assigned value.
