I think it depends on the situation. AR-15 isn't meant to be a killing gun. It's more for the use of wounding and taking 3 people out of the war at once since two people usually carry the guy off the battlefield. I'm more of a kill anyone I shoot type of guy... so I either stick with my Glock 21c or a .338. If a .338 can drop a Elk from 700 yards (Yes I seen it actually lift the elk off the ground) then I think the .338 is a good one shot one kill gun.

lol zero... have you ever been Elk hunting? You're lucky if you get within 300 yards of them. So yes... the 700 yard shot is highly likely... and they guy that I watched has hunted all his life. If you doubt the accuracy of a .338, ask someone you think who would know about it since you think I'm full of shit. I'll bet you $1,000 that USMCsniper says that a 700yrd shot at an Elk is an easy shot with a good rest. GGKTHXHAND  And if you think he's full of shit I just looked it up and people are talking about hitting targets from 2600 yards away.

And here's the World Record Kill shot (On a person 1/4 the size of an Elk)

(Maybe the confusion is you think I mean it flew high up in the air... I onmly meant it got knocked off its feet)

The AR15's problems in vietnam were caused by bad ammo. The rounds that they used in them used stick powder, not ball powder. Stick powder burns dirtier than ball powder, and the AR15's didn't like that gunky buildup at all. Once the soldier's got ball powder, their weapon problems were few and far between.
