n00bfest.com V2 has Arrived!

First things first, I gotta give props to the Gman for all the hard work he put into the original n00bfest V1 series (God rest it's soul). He worked his ass off making it original and functional and overall... very hot and juicy. So, let's have a big round of applause for my oversized homie, and all his hard work that just got deleted. It is truly a sad day in that respect.

Some how.... some way... we're gonna have to make a stick figure animation gallery one of these days. I just can't see living without them forever.

Now, on to the news....

n00bfest.com Version 2.0 has just been unveiled.

The changes are far too many to list. Basically, it's a total overhaul from scratch. My wife got pretty pissed off at me because I took Thanksgiving week off (my first vacation in 18 months) and spent almost the entire week and ALL of my waking hours working on this new site.

More credit goes out to CorpseHumper (heh), oreX, Fluxxx, and Super Effect for the various buttons and banners. Props to the Gman for helping me with a few coding issues when I would get stuck. And many many props to google for helping me through those really tough questions about javascripting and flash animation editing.

Some things to note about the new site:

It uses pop-ups. Go ahead and tell your browser to always trust pop-up from here. I will not use pop-ups to install any malicious software, or spyware, or adware on your PCs.

It uses javascript. The server page has interactive server monitors. You can expand and collapse the menus on the server monitor, split the players to see what teams they're one, etc.

It has some... shall we call them... "rough edges". Things like the members, admins, and elders lists need some work, because they're just raw data without any added spices.

PHPchat is gone. In the n00b info page, there's chat information in the lower right corner. Install mIRC, and then click the link that says "CLICK HERE TO JOIN OUR IRC CHANNEL". You don't have to know what server or channel or anything. If you have trouble with it, post something in the tech support forums.

I don't have a FAQ worked out yet, so here's the biggies:

Q: "Where is everything? I used to be able to find things! I don't like new things!"
A: Sorry if you don't like new things. Let's just move on and see if we can navigate the new site.

Main Page = News and announcements.

Servers Page = Server Monitors for all game servers, Ventrilo, Teamspeak (click the text for Teamspeak and Ventrilo), and a link for people to email about renting their own server.

n00b info = Lists of Elders, Admins, and Members. Link to n00bfest Webmail. n00bfest Chat info. Player Stats links.

Downloads = This section has always been our Kryptonite and our weakest link. It still is! However, there are some wallpapers posted already, and I'm working on two galleries for n00bfest artists that have already sent me some of their work.

Forums = There are multiple styles available now. Once you select one, it will remember you when you login, and show you the style you have selected. All n00bfest logos will link you back to the main page.

Q: "Why aren't the menus on the forums anymore?"
A: Two reasons - Number A) it would be a pain in the ass to customize all of the forum styles to include the menus, and Letter 2) people just hotlink to the forums and never check for news or other happenings. For those that just want the forums, they'll still hotlink direct to them like they always have. But when they want to see their player stats, there's a possibility they might actually see the front page news by accident while they're getting there.

Well... let me have it. I'm sure some of you will love it, and some of you will hate it and lament about "the old days".
